A very good article in my opinion. Someone should send it to Modano and friends to open their eyes...
The players who are at these games representing the USA deserve our praise. They deserve it because they will be responsible for an improved showing at the 2004 IIHF World Championship and for keeping America's 2006 Olympic hopes alive with their efforts. Chris Drury's leadership, Mike Grier's physical style and Richard Park's never-ending desire to win means that while Modano, Guerin, Weight, and Tkachuk are making their summer plans, there is a good chance of Team USA staying among the top eight nations in the IIHF World Rankings and avoiding an Olympic Qualifier next February.
Anyone who has represented the United States at the IIHF World Championship deserves praise because, and let's be honest, Ryan Malone's goal at 11:41 of the first period against Ukraine on April 28 might be the reason that Mike Modano gets a shot at glory in the 2006 Olympics.
And because Modano, Guerin, Weight, and Tkachuk will of course accept the invitation to the Olympics, there won't be any spots left for the boys in Ostrava who made all that possible.
The last two paragraphs are so so true. So Sad but true.
