WashingtonCaps.com Message Boards under construction from May 5 - 7
In an effort to improve your experience on WashingtonCaps.com, we are upgrading our message boards. Beginning May 5 the Washington Capitals message boards will be temporarily shutdown for a short period and will be unavailable for posting. We expect the boards to be back and fully functional within 48 hours of being shutdown.
When the upgraded message boards are up and running, users will have to complete an initial sign-up process, which we estimate will take less than two minutes. When someone requests access to post threads to the new boards they will receive an email in which a reply will be needed in order to have posting privileges.
During the transition, the previous boards will be available in an archived format.
Some of the new and improved features include:
° A control panel that grants members increased flexibility over their board experience. For example, members can send and receive personal messages, choose their favorite skin and language packs and adjust the board settings to their preferences.
° An easy to use and comprehensive calendar will allows members to schedule private events or broadcast public events.
° Message board help with a searchable FAQ system.

What the boards need is an active and effective moderator. That has helped the Pens board mightily, although his presence is still useless against the vapid majority that litter the boards with nonsense (and I'm rarely an exception). One wonders how some of them found the internet in the first place.

What code of conduct?I thought it was just a rumor.

Only one screen name or on-line personality per user. Signing on under multiple screen names to coerce and/or cajole other members into off-topic arguments or bickering is forbidden.
(What does that make the BOD?)
•Prohibited language, linking and/or posting includes but is not limited to: material that defames, threatens harm or abuses other members; any communication that is intended to harass, belittle, humiliate or embarrass a fellow member; any statement that is bigoted, hateful or racially offensive(that's bullshit); material that contains vulgar, obscene or indecent language or images. Material or links to material that threatens harm to owners, employees or players of the Washington Capitals organization is strictly prohibited.
(But if you publicly admit to following unpopular people or have a differing opinion,then 6th grade namecalling is permitted.)

I'd just as soon they blew them up, raked the ashes, salted the soil, and left the ruins uninhabited for the next 10,000 years . . . but that's just my opinion . . . I could be wrong.

The funny thing is, I left inadvertently, and before they got as out-of-control as they are now. One of my problems was the disappearing posts, which I attributed either to a hacker (possibly with the complicity of an insider) or a moderator on crack. Somebody on the inside was being an ass, that's for sure.
So I thought I'd take a break during the 2002 Olympics. Marc formed these boards around that time. And I haven't been back to the official boards since.
You'd didn't miss much.Let's just say there is a reason I read,not post(That & my screen name.Never mention that there,or you'll pay.Peerless can tell you how bad it got.).I mean calling people "gay" because you don't like them....isn't that over after middle school?
You may get an occasional good article or link but you'd have to wade through the trash.

Since the last version of the official message boards (the "pie" boards) closed down, I'd guess that the median age of posters was approximately middle school. I cringe at what the next iteration will bring.

I'll always be grateful for the official boards for bringing Chris and me together. We wouldn't have met if we hadn't found so much in common on the Anything But Hockey board.
But it's a different place than it was back in 2001. We used to have a nice close-knit group, but that blew up. There's not many of the same people there anymore, and definitely not the same atmosphere. I miss how it used to be.
I very rarely go there to read anymore, and I haven't posted in ages. It's just not the same, but I hope they make the improvements they're hoping for.
