In all seriousness...

June 17 2004, 2:09 PM

..would you expect any ex-Cap to come back when a) there may not be a season , b) even if there is a season, the regime stays the same and/or c)if the NHL considers contraction...think the Caps run high on that list?

the "regime" under which those players left is gone. my understanding, at least of kono, was that he hated cassidy, and left largely for that reason. that being said, i don't know that we need/want them back. rebuilding is rebuilding. it's not renewing the old team.

Actually PGreene, reports about Kono were that he hated playing with Jagr (said he didn't like the direction the team was headed). He supposedly requested a trade after Jagr's first season with the team (summer 2002), before Cassidy was ever hired.

Does "hate" meaning

Hating a guy personally,or just the system?Because if you believe some message boards, there would have only been 2 people left if you traded players that did'nt like He Who Shall Not Be Named.

I don't know, but I suspect it wasn't personal, but a question of team chemistry (different playing styles, approaches that didn't mesh). I'm not trying to bust on Jagr; I'm just repeating what Leonsis and GMGM both have stated regarding Kono trade request.

i gather loads of folks hated the idea of bringing in a huge salary flashy no-defense type. especially since it was a team of grinders. but at any rate, jagr's scarcely even a memory to me anymore. he's gone. those who left because he was here now, superficially, have roadblocks to coming back removed. but again, i don't really see a need to go round up all those who left. it's a new team. new players. i'm pretty excited to see what a new group of kids can do.

Totally agree with you. I'm all for starting anew. Whatever the problem, the group we had together the past few years didn't work. Quite frankly, as lacking in talent as the team was at the end of the season, I had a blast at the games. They played hard every shift of every game and that was awesome to see. If the new kids can play with that kind of hunger, and develop their skills in the meantime, I'll happily suffer through a couple (to be optimistic) of losing seasons. With the possible exception of Bondra, and only then because I'd like to see him retire a Cap, I have no interest in seeing any of the former players back in a Caps uniform.
