The Ottawa Senators have decided not to pick up the option on Peter Bondra's contract, TSN has learned.
Sources say the Senators are still interested in having Bondra back in an Ottawa uniform next season, but at far less than the $4.5 million he would have been paid if the option were exercised.
As a result, Bondra is set to become an unrestricted free agent at midnight tonight and is free to sign with any NHL club, including Ottawa.
Bondra was acquired by the Senators from Washington prior to the trade deadline last March.
