SEVEN PLAYERS JOIN FLAMES ORGANIZATION

Tuesday, July 6, 2004

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager & Head Coach Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of seven players.  As per club policy, terms and conditions of the deals were not disclosed.

MARK GIORDANO, a defenceman from Toronto, Ontario, played the last two seasons with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).  During the 2003-04 campaign, the 6’0” 203 lbs. rearguard posted 49 points (14 goals, 35 assists) and 72 penalty minutes in 65 games.  In his rookie season in the OHL (2002-03) Giordano posted 48 points (18 goals, 30 assists) and was named to the OHL and Canadian Hockey League (CHL) All-Rookie Teams.  In his two seasons with Owen Sound the 19 year-old has posted 97 points (32 goals, 65 assists) and 181 penalty minutes in 133 games.

DAVIN HEINTZ, a left wing from Luseland, SK, played the last two seasons with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League (WHL).  During the 2003-04 campaign, the 6’4” 213 lbs. forward posted 50 points (24 goals, 26 assists) and 47 penalty minutes in 62 games. Heintz is a veteran of the WHL having played in six seasons including four with the Saskatoon Blades.

JUSTIN TAYLOR, a left wing from Edmonton, AB, played last season with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League (WHL).  During the 2003-04 campaign, the 6’4” 200 lbs. forward posted 38 points (16 goals, 22 assists) and 39 penalty minutes in 57 games.  In 19 playoff games last year, he recorded 16 points including 6 goals. In his rookie season in the WHL (2002-03), Taylor played 39 games with the Medicine Hat Tigers.

DUSTIN JOHNER, a center from Sylvan Lake, AB, played his entire junior career (5 seasons) with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League (WHL).  During the 2003-04 campaign, the 511” 180 lbs. forward posted 57 points (26 goals, 31 assists) and 54 penalty minutes in 71 games.  Johner was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers 169the overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He finished last season with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL recording 6 points in 4 regular season games and another 7 points in 7 playoff games.

RICHIE REGEHR, a defenceman from Rosthern, SK, played the last three seasons with the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL).  During the 2003-04 campaign, the 6’0” 190 lbs. rearguard posted 43 points (9 goals, 34 assists) and 88 penalty minutes in 65 games.  Regehr’s best offensive totals came during the 2002-2003 campaign when he recorded 61 points including 16 goals. Regehr, who has played in six WHL seasons, is the younger brother of current Flames defenceman and assistant captain Robyn Regehr.

PATRIK NILSON, a center from Balsta, Sweden split last season between the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League (CHL).  In 60 games with Laredo, the 6’0” 180 lbs. forward posted 65 points (27 goals, 38 assists) and 62 penalty minutes.  Nilson, who is the younger brother of current Flames center Marcus Nilson, played two seasons with Djurgardens IF Stockholm.

CARSEN GERMYN, a right wing from Campbell River, BC is a graduate of the Western Hockey League (WHL) having played five seasons with the Kelowna Rockets and Red Deer Rebels. In 324 career WHL games, the 5’10” 185 lbs. forward posted 283 points (116 goals, 167 assists) and 508 penalty minutes.  Germyn played the 2003-2004 season with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL) posting 27 points (11 goals and 16 assists) while accumulating 104 penalty minutes.
