Moose to make Carlyle new bench boss
In 17 NHL seasons, Carlyle recorded 148 goals and 499 assists in 1055 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins and Winnipeg Jets.
Sportsnet.ca -- The Manitoba Moose will announce former NHLer Randy Carlyle as the team's new head coach Tuesday, the Team 1040 in Vancouver is reporting.
Manitoba, the AHL affiliate for the Vancouver Canucks, will hold a press conference at 12 noon PT today to make the announcement.
The position has been vacant for the last two months after the team's head coach Stan Smyl was appointed to director of player development with the Canucks.
Scott Arniel and former Carolina Hurricanes head coach Paul Maurice were also considered for the head coaching job with the Moose.
Carlyle spent five seasons with the Moose (1996-2001) serving as an assistant and head coach with the team when they played in the IHL. His resume also includes assistant coaching duties in the NHL, in 1995-96 with the Winnipeg Jets and 2002-03 with the Washington Capitals.

The Sudbury, Ontario native was a Norris Trophy winner as the league's best defenceman in 1980-81.
