In the offensive end Sergei Gonchar was receiving a pass from Aleksei Kaygorodov but was checked hard by Aleksander Ovechkin. Sergei Gonchar fell on the ice and lost consciousness. He immediately was taken to local hospital with heavy concussion.

Not sure if I should be saying "Holy Crap, we have a player that can hit like that!!!" or if I should be saying "Do we crucify Ovechkin like Bertuzzi and McSorley for what MAY have been a dirty hit?".

 

Either way, let's hope Gonch gets through this.  He may be a Bruin now and gone after the big bucks, but no-one deserves this.

has anyone SEEN the hit? i never was a gonch fan, but i'd hate to see him ended. it's fun to watch him cough up the puck, especially now that he's not a cap.

i saw it. if someone could learn me how to post a video, i would. it's clean as it can possibly be--gonch has his head down, alex just kinda taps him, really. he just had his head down.

I cannot find anything about Gonchar's injury in the press up here.
If it doesn't rate a mention up here , i am of the belief that the injury isn't serious.

Totally a clean hit, Gonch with his head down, and Ovechkin other that leaning in a bit with his shoulder, didn't even have to try and hit him.

Are you sure it was Ovechkin with the hit? I means, the Caps haven't hit that hard since Langway.

Kinda wish we had a season....

Well, I just got back from The Zzard's annual baseball seminar (he goes to the seminar, I sleep/read/shop/hang out and relax), so while I'm sports-saturated, it's good to read something that isn't baseball or football.

Oh, yeah, Gonch got hurt.  I hope he gets better soon.

And yeah, the Caps have a player who can hit.  Woo hoo!  Now, what year will they resume play?
