Winger Martin Havlat of the Ottawa Senators is the latest NHL star to join the Russian league, officially joining Moscow Dynamo on Wednesday.
The Czech native transferred from Znojmo of the Czech league and will likely play his first game with Dynamo next week.
``From Martin's perspective, having the chance to go to Russia and play in a very competitive league, he's really looking forward to being part of that,'' Havlat's agent Allan Walsh said Wednesday from Los Angeles.
It's believed Dynamo will play Havlat $1.2 million US to play the rest of the season.
At Dynamo, Havlat will join up with Detroit Red Wings star centre Pavel Datsyuk as the Russian league continues to load up on the top NHL talent by throwing some big-time money around at the league's top locked-out players.
AK Bars Kazan leads the way with 11 NHLers, including Brad Richards, Vincent Lecavalier and Nikolai Khabibulin of the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning as well as Alexei Kovalev of the Montreal Canadiens, Ilya Kovalchuk of the Atlanta Thrashers and Alexei Morozov of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Omsk Avangard completed the transfer Monday of star winger Jaromir Jagr of the New York Rangers. Jagr, Richards and Lecavalier will all earn over $300,000 a month _ tax-free.
Meanwhile, Havlat's Senators teammate Daniel Alfredsson is not quite on the move just yet. The International Ice Hockey Federation had the Sens captain listed as joining Frolunda of the Swedish league Wednesday but his agent said that hasn't happened yet.
``He has not signed with them yet. But he may after the New Year, and most likely he will,'' Claes Elefalk of IMG said Wednesday from Stockholm.
