A good source says veteran defender Chris Chelios could end up back in Detroit for one more season. Also, unrestricted free agent blueliner Sergei Gonchar may sign on for a spot on the (Sidney) Crosby Show. The Penguins could have some power-play unit with Gonchar, Crosby, Mario Lemieux and Mark Recchi. We'll keep an eye on those two defensemen.
Peter Forsberg goes to the Philadelphia Flyers - which will cause them to trade Jeremy Roenick to the Los Angeles Kings.
Pittsburgh Penguins added Sergei Gonchar. Brian Leetch to the Bruins. The Islanders sign Miroslav Satan and then trade Mike Peca to the Oilers for Mike York. And the Oilers, by the way, also ended up with Chris Pronger. Then Mike Modano rejects a five-year contract offer from Dallas and told the Stars he wants to keep talking with other clubs.
What in the world is going on? And can someone call GMGM and Teddy Log-on and see if they know that everything has started. I don't expect them to be major players, but anything would be nice. At least get to the part where you announce Peter Bondra is back.

yeah, but it doesn't hurt to have some veteran leadership in the locker room to help Ovechkin, Fehr, Semin and the rest. If you think Halpern or Witt is the man for the job ... you're sadly mistaken. I just want the Caps to notice that free agency is going on. Even the Blue Jackets are signing people!

I believe we need a center. Who do you see on our top two lines ? Halpern and Zubrus ? If one of them is able to feed two 25/30-goal scorers, OK, but I seriously doubt it. Ovechkin, Semin and Fehr should become awesome wingers. We need a center. Do you sign Bondra for a last year or a big center for the next 3-4 years ? That center could be our leader, actually. We don't care about this season. It should be a long and painful season, in any case. Our kids will score a few goals, but we're not ready for the playoffs yet. We're building a new team, and so far, it's bye bye old Caps. GMGM doesn't seem to look behind him.
Let's do both - the Caps can sign Peter Bondra and then sign a center with a "pass-first" mentality. I just hope the Caps realize that there is a minimum amount they have to spend this year.
