Right wing Alexander Mogilny, 36 and a free agent, reportedly has narrowed his choices to Florida or Washington. The Caps, however, would not confirm any discussions with him.
The erratic Mogilny can be one of the league's most spectacular players one night, then make little impact the next. He has missed 54 games during the past two NHL seasons because of injuries and is currently recovering from hip surgery. He had been scheduled to make $4.2 million with the Toronto Maple Leafs but has let it be known he would be willing to take a pay cut.
Three Canadian teams and at least one in the United States have made preliminary inquiries about Caps defenseman Brendan Witt, 30, who has asked to be traded.

"Haven't you seen 'Boyz n' the Hood?' Now one of us is going to get shot" -- Swingers
I wanted Mogilny (and Allison) before we got Jagr, but he had just scored 43 goals for the Devils. He's probably lost a lot, and he's 36, but I'd welcome him. He could score 25-30 goals if healthy. We don't have too many confirmed snipers (our two snipers have never played in the NHL). Hopefully, we'll sign him.
