I'll try to keep you both posted, but I've had a LOTTTTTTT of alcohol this morning.... turned it on with 15:00 left 1st-
NJ on the PP, but the Caps kill it at about 14:04 left 1st.
Since I'm watching without sound (NY & Crazy Horse blasting in the background), I have to form my own opinions rather than rely on JB or Locker for reports.
Seems more energetic than yesterday, by both teams. Nice hit by a Jersey guy just now 11:53?- and there's a timeout at 11:35 left 1st.

A cheap call gives the Devils a 5 on 3, and they score immediately- 1-0.

With 8:00 left in the 3rd, Caps are running out of time again- Devils have fallen back into their neutral zone trapping game, keeping the caps from getting set up in the O zone.

Although it's an exhibition game, it's a very important one, because the Germans are our old rivals: they beat us twice in the World Cup semi-finals in 1982 and 1986, and their goalie destroyed the face of one of our guys in that first game.
We beat them the last four times we met them, though (all exhibition games), and France is undefeated under its new coach (since August 2004, 16 games).

After being frustrated by all those routs at the beginning of the season, we're now frustrated when we lose by one goal... because we know that our players are able to beat anyone. I think we're going in the right direction.
Great game by our starting line those last two games: Clymer-Sutherby-Bradley.
Ovechkin didn't score, but he's the 3rd star.

Yes, indeed- they're learning to play together, and that's a good sign for the future.
Last night, for Hershey, they won on the road- 2 goals each by Gordon and Aulin, one each for Fehr and Steckel..... the future's so bright, I've got to wear shades.

And the present is not bad either, with Ovechkin and Eminger. We're probably the only team in the NHL whose best forward is 20 and best defenseman is 22 (it's like Bouwmeester and Staal in the same team... or even better).
Before this game, Eminger was on pace for 10-46-56 (almost exactly Gonchar's numbers in 2003-04), and Ovechkin for... 67-26-93!

Yes, you're absolutely right -- the future is bright AND I believe that this team can beat most other teams. However, they MUST learn to stay out of the penalty box. Ten minutes in the first period alone is a disgrace. Penalty killers looked good and even Johnson acquitted himself in my eyes today. Both the Devils games, the Caps could have won had they been a bit more disciplined AND put some more shots on net. Even if they don't score, at least put a few more on there. They had 2 shots in the third period (at least acc to the last report I heard). That's not going to cut it. It's a learning experience for the team, I know, but I sure am frustrated that they lose close games that they could win. On the other side of the coin, even with the new way teams are playing these days, leave it up to the Devils to still be able to make a game boring. The League should fine them for using the trap.
