The defending Stanley Cup champs, 5-2 victors vs. Philly Monday, and one of the NHL's hottest rookies take the spotlight on OLN tonight (7 p.m., ET) as the Tampa Bay Lightning visit Alexander Ovechkin (left), who leads all rookies with 13 goals, and the Washington Capitals. ...more

Still diddly diddly in the Caps game.
Buff and NJ are tied at 1 .
I see that Car plays in Ott tonight.............may be an ugly one(for the few Canes fans around).
I was having a look at the standings... so we're dead last in the East. And 28th in the league. If we had beaten the Devils twice like we were able to, we would be only 2 points away from the 8th seed.
I still think we can make it, and lately, I was wondering if we should make a trade or sign someone to help us. We're rebuilding, OK, but with Ovechkin, Eminger and Kolzig, we're able to make the playoffs, in my opinion. If everyone was healthy all year, that would be perfect, but since we always have one or two key players injured, I think we should try to get a veteran or two. I'm glad that guys like Laich, Klepis and Fleischmann see more NHL action than expected, though.
Since Majesky is there, if we forget the mistake that cost us a goal in his first game, I think we have three very decent defense pairings. That's the good point. Hopefully, Witt will stay, at least until the trade deadline.
The Caps would be better off(sorry to say this) if they Suck this year and get a top 2 pick in the upcoming draft.
Kessel,Toews and Frolic(sp?) are supposed to be rather good.
We desperately need at least a second goalscorer. Tampa has 6 players with 5 goals or more: Prospal 13, Lecavalier 10, Modin 7, Richards and Boyle 6, St. Louis 5.
still 0-0 late in the per. sogs are 6-3 TB Not exactly a barn burner.
Yawn.................. you said it, friend.
I left with 3:24 left 1st, as nothing was going on. Looks like I didn't miss much to this point- couple of TB goals, but who didn't expect that. AO with a couple good hits in the 1st, but that was the extent of the action from the Caps' side. And it took them over 9:00 to register a shot on goal tonight- that made it over 28:00 without an SOG.
Cassels is in, probably for Zubrus (rumor was, groin injury at practice for Zubie).

Scoring says the assists were Halpern and Eminger.
I did neglect to say that TB came in on a 2 on 1 mid 1st, and Witt broke it up cleanly by laying out flat and taking the puck away with his stick. Stellar work by the top D line tonight.
Yes, Roger, Cassels for Zubrus... except that he's playing on the 4th line, and even served the too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty. He gets decent time of ice, though, thanks to the PP.

Scroring shows Ovechkin with 3 hits through the 2nd period, and let me tell you about the first one- you could see the TB guy lining him up, came from about 15-20 feet away, and timed it just as the puck was getting there. However, I'm sure AO saw him out the corner of his eye, and turned into him just as the guy got there- BOOM!!! Down flat goes the Tampa guy, AO barely moved on his skates......
He's the interview between periods, they're asking him about his physical play- he doesn't give much of an answer, but you get the impression he likes to play that way. Next (and last) question- "What do you like best about the NHL?" Answer, with a big smile on his face- "The NHL!!!!"
I am all for AO playing physical , but the Caps will need others to back him up(play policeman) . Just my opinion.
Not sure. He plays physical, but he's not mean. Only clean hits, if I judge by the highlights. You can't fight a guy like him. He's respected, I think.

That's what he did to White on November 11 vs. New Jersey. It's unbelievable to see him stay exactly where he is when a guy hits him like that. I think it's a little move that he does at the last second to make the guy fall. With his shoulder, or his skate.
Someone in the 1st tried to put it past Johnson (I didn't see who it was), and hollered- "When did we get Gonchar back?" lol
Great shift by the Caps, just a moment ago, and you can see the TB guys are showing a little frustration- Halpern got a little shove in the back from Cibak after the whistle.... we may see the Caps on the PP again soon.
I waited to post- wanted to let you get the feeling of that score. Wait until you see this one, Marc, it will be on Sport Center no doubt. And then does his celebration, he almost takes out the boards! He's going full speed!
That was Ovechkin's 4th shot in five minutes (that also saw shots by Witt and Clark). At least, the Caps won't be blamed for not having a shot on goal in the last 18 minutes, this time.
Let's try to get that second point in OT. Those OTL points are for losers like the Pens. (Sorry, Misto, I'm kidding.)

Alexander Ovechkin (left) tied the score with 1:15 remaining in the third period then recorded the only shootout goal for a 4-3 win over the Lightning. The defending champs have just one win in their last eight games. Also, Los Angeles visits Nashville (in progress). ...more

That was an awesome goal. Cibak broke his stick over the goal after that.
