Free Olie Kolzig posters at F. Street... Hope Roger will get one.

Starting lineup for the Caps:
Clymer Sutherby Bradley Morrisonn Majesky Kolzig
Osgood in net for the Red Wings. He's "cold", according to forecaster.ca.

Looks like Osgood is not that cold, after all. He's already stopped two good shots by Pettinger and Willsie.

OVECHKIN SCOOOOOOOOOOOORES! On the PP!
Against one of the best PKs in the league (they also have one of the best PPs).
1-0 Caps.
Assists: Muir and Heward.

The Red Wings only have three first round picks in their lineup, and two of them are on their fourth line (Stevie Y and Dan Cleary... Shanahan is the third one).
The Caps have nine first round picks in their lineup, including one on their fourth line, LOL! Plus one on the IR, and one as a healthy scratch.

Sounds like Cassels made a good pass to Ovechkin on the PP. He should center Ovechkin more often, I think. He's 3-5-8 in the last ten games.

Clark to the box... Zetterberg scores! 1-1.

Schneider to the box.
Great shot by Heward, but wide.
Intermission. The Caps will start the second period on the PP, for 59 seconds.

One Red Wing and two Caps to the box...
PETTINGER SCORES! SHORT-HANDED!
Assists to Clark and Heward.

Clark again to the box... Zetterberg strikes again on the PP. 2-2.
We need to stay out of the box, like the radio announcers repeat it. It applies to each game, of course. All those PPG that we give up ruin all the good things that we do.

Made it home in time for the last 3:39 of the 2nd.
If this period was as good as the 1st, we're in for a treat in the 3rd!

With a little over a minute to play, the light goes on, the horn goes off, the bench jumps up, the fans go wild, but.............. no goal.
Willsie, hard off the post.
2-2, end 2nd.

They have announced (as usual, when the Wings come to town) the first sellout of the year at MCI.
crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest ) Forum Moderator Re: Game 28 vs. DETROIT Red Wings December 9 2005, 8:57 PM
Stats show the Wings leading in almost every category except hits- the caps lead after 2, 15-9. Of course, Ovechkin leads with 4, Willsie, Clymer and Mink 2 each.
3rd on.

Hi, Roger! First sellout, at last! Each game should be a sellout, in my opinion. Watching Ovechkin, Eminger and Kolzig should be enough.
I've seen the highlights of our 5-1 win... the way Ovechkin skates is just unbelievable.
Datsyuk scores. 3-2 Red Wings. Clark must score, now.
crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest ) Forum Moderator Re: Game 28 vs. DETROIT Red Wings December 9 2005, 9:03 PM
Wings take the lead, 3-2, on a pretty shot by Datsyuk. Took the D out of position... Olie still might have had it, but a slidingbackwardsonhisrightside Alex Ovechkin took Olie right out of the play.

Another post on a great chance by the Caps.... Zubrus this time.
Keep working, guys!
crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest ) Forum Moderator Re: Game 28 vs. DETROIT Red Wings December 9 2005, 9:08 PM
And I take back the post comment- on first view, it looked like it, but the replay shows Zubie dragged it from behind the post and shot, and it went off and under Osgood, and right out the other side of the crease.

Caps to the PP, at 10:57 left 3rd- this is the moment......

Clark was +1 before this goal. He was in the box when we gave up those two PP goals, and on the ice when Pettinger scored short-handed. He was on the ice for the last goal too. He's on the top line. He should prove that he deserves it and score more often. He's headed for a career year in goals (19), but after scoring 4 goals in 5 games, he has no point in the last 5 games (including this one). Willsie is cold, too. Perhaps we should recall Fehr. He's 13-14-27 in 26 games with the Hershey Bears, after a slow start, I believe.

Caps have :54 of 5 on 3 now- got to get 1 quick.... and then worry about the go-ahead.

... or try to win the shootout.
crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest ) Forum Moderator Re: Game 28 vs. DETROIT Red Wings December 9 2005, 9:15 PM
Nothing. Not even a real good chance.
Marc
(Login marc_mehdi ) Forum Moderator Re: Game 28 vs. DETROIT Red Wings December 9 2005, 9:17 PM
The Caps only had one shot on their 5-on-3 PP, Kolbe just said.
I said Clark had no point in the last 5 games including this one, by the way, but he has a first assist on Pettinger's goal. Sorry.
crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest ) Forum Moderator Re: Game 28 vs. DETROIT Red Wings December 9 2005, 9:25 PM
Eminger in the box for kneeing.... it didn't look real bad or cheap, but it did look deliberate.
Good call.
The Caps get a SH chance, but nothing again....
Lidstrom. 4-2.

And soon 5-2 if we pull our goalie.

Ovechkin offside. 29 seconds left.
Marc
(Login marc_mehdi ) Forum Moderator Re: Game 28 vs. DETROIT Red Wings December 9 2005, 9:31 PM
5 seconds left. If Ovechkin scores twice, we can still win this one.
MUIR SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES! With nothing left, but it counts.

Assist to Jeff Halpern. Time of the goal 19:59.

Looks like it was Heward from Ovechkin and Halpern.
Heward is 1-2-3 tonight, and Ovechkin had another 2-point game. Too bad we gave up those PP goals at the worst moments.
crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest ) Forum Moderator Re: Game 28 vs. DETROIT Red Wings (L 3-4) December 9 2005, 10:12 PM
Yep- Heward, at 19:59.6. Buzzer beater.
In the post-game, they showed part of a Hanlon interview, where he was saying the Caps couldn't give the Wings more than five shots at PPs; that proved prophetic, tonight.
Good showing by the homeboys, though, and now a few days off for practice and travel to the West Coast.
crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest ) Forum Moderator Re: Game 28 vs. DETROIT Red Wings (L 3-4) December 9 2005, 10:24 PM
At least something good, in the NHL notes on the game:
Entering Friday's play, Ovechkin led NHL rookies in goals (17), points (30), power-play goals (7) and shots (135). He also leads the league with four shootout goals. ...

“It doesn’t surprise me,” said Hanlon of his team’s never-say-die mentality. “It’s like that Monty Python movie, you know? ‘It’s just a flesh wound!’
