This is the first game I've had the impression the players realize this is for the Stanley Cup- both teams look edgy.

Marc probably knows better than I how they got in. From what I understand, they're an improving team, and I think you earn your way into the final 16, so they must have done something right to get there. Not really up on the game, though watching a few of the games this past week has been very instructive. I still don't understand offsides, though.

About Italy-USA: that was a great game. After their first game, the Americans looked like the weakest team of the world cup (they didn't look like they wanted to play). It was really surprising to see them dominating Italy for most of the game. They didn't really score a goal, but they deserved to win, in my opinion. I believe it was the best game of their history since USA-Brasil in 1994 (the last world cup doesn't count, it was a wreck). They still can qualify for the eigth finals.

Judging by the number of offsides whistled so far, many players don't understand that rule either.  Especially the Ghaneans.

Let's try to explain the offside: when you're attacking, you can't pass the ball to a teammate if there's less than two opponents (including the goalie... or not) between him and the goal line. Well, don't know if that's clear.
