I agree MK's a picker, but I've never been a fan. He's one of those guys that comes across to my ear as very sterile- technically perfect, but no real soul (and Mr. E. Clapton is another- I know, it's my problem). I own a print of Eric Johnson's "Venus Isle" album cover, signed by him, but he's a third member (hahaha I said member here) of the lifeless pickers' club.
All tone, no "zone".
I hate to say out loud that booze or drugs make players, but it really seems so. The users seem to be the guys that don't care or even know if they make a mistake, or if they do recognize it as a mistake, turn it instantly into another musical road that few if any have gone done before.
p.s.: Congrats to the Canadian Under 18s on their win today (thus making this a hockey post).

I agree that MK is a little "too clean" picking wise .
But the first few Dire Striats albums were good.
As for "slowhand".
I love his work with the Bluesbreakers/Derek and the Dominoes/and Cream .
Most of his solo work doesn't thrill me.
I understand that he was a fan of the Minny North Stars(I ain't joking here).

For as long as I can remember the under 18's have been shown up here.
I am amazed that the Gold game was not on tv .
Most of these guys will be drafted next year(I kinda expect Esposito to go first).
I was hoping for a Summer Hockey Fix .
One month to go till training camp.........I hope that I survive till then . |

This might help, even if just for a moment: I learned in my internet travels last night that one of your former screennames played with the Mothers Of Invention-
Shuggy Otis played on these albums or songs:
and I also learned this morning that Rachel Blanchard (Snakes On A Plane) is Canadian, and plays ice hockey (thus making this a hockey post). |

Johnny Otis's little boy is a great picker !
Buddy Guy has a conny around my parts today but I am passing .Sitting in the HOT SUN for hours(and listening to a bunch of bands i could care less about) just too get to BG doesn't rock my boat.
I'll wait till he comes back and plays a club.
I was watching the Minny/Tor baseball game today and the announcer made mentioned that Justin Morneau(sp?) flew into Car to watch game 7 of the finals .
Thus making this a hockey post.
ps
I know Morneau's dad

Aug 12 was also Pat Metheny's b-day.
Not really a big fan of his but I have some friends who worship this picker . |

PM has lots of fans up my way .
I tip my hat in his direction.
The two pickers that many of my friends love and yet I am so so on are.........PM and Roy Buchanan.
Although I will never question their talent.
these guys can pick . |

I have 2 Metheny albums- Works, and Works II. I must admit, I haven't listened to them in a long time. On the other hand, I have 6 Buchanan albums (A Street Called Straight, Second Album, My Babe, The Atlantic Sessions, When A Guitar Plays The Blues, and Dancing On The Edge), and listen to them quite often.
I may have told this story before, but when I was younger, I used to go see Buchanan play at a club called My Mother's Place in D.C. He never booted me off the stage when I would literally crawl up on it in front of the drum kit to watch his hands from close up.
Great player, but a troubled soul. |

I know he is a great "picker" , but I never really got into him .
