1-0 Caps. Semin from Clark. Second point of the year for both of them.

I told my row I'd stay for 2 goals in the 2nd (AO scores!), and on the 2nd Canes' goal, they all just stood up to let me by.... not a word was spoken. Got home to see the score tied at 2, and now Ovie pots one to give the Caps the lead.
They looked ok, the period I was there- bad news is, Gordon was in street clothes, and moving gingerly when introduced- he's not going to be back any time soon, I fear. On the second Canes' goal, Olie tried to smash his stick and missed, then took a swipe at the puck, and missed.....
Pothier got off to a rough start tonight, as did Zednik (again)....
Semin, I had just talked him up to Donna, and said the exact words "quick shot" when he put that first one in. Nice.
Caps to the PP again, would be nice to get an insurance goal- how about a hat for Semin?
Ovechkin has been hurt, looked like another knee on knee that flipped him over entirely- I thought he landed on his head on the ice. Possibly very serious, he was still down when they cut away for commercial.
They say he made his own way to the bench, he's flexing his left leg, and they were bandaging the little finger on his left hand; he indicated to the bench he's ok.
Several scrums at the end, as Brashear got into it with Walker after committing a foul, and then Clymer and I think Clark got into it with a couple Canes right at the end of the game.
Great game tonight. Beech looked much stronger out there, especially....Sutherby was at his most mobile....the defense didn't do a whole lot be be noticed; that's always a good thing.
I hope AO's okay. If the two-headed Alex can pull off a night like tonight more often than not, it should give opposing teams' fits in deciding which Alex their top defensive pair should focus upon.
My only concern going forward is the PP. Sure it revolves around Ovechkin, but there has to be at least one shooting threat from the point to make it more consistently effective. Pothier's serviceable as a puck mover, but I'd like to see a right-handed shot on the left point winding up for one-timers similar to what we had with Bondra and Gonchar at the points.

You may count Tim Gleason as having been introduced to the Southeast conference. He's going to have a bullseye on his back every time he plays the Caps from here on out. It was a pretty cheap hit on his part.
As for the rest of the game, this offered a glimpse of what can be. A-squared aren't shy about shooting the puck, but they don't just throw it at the net, either. Chris Calrk might be a "checking" forward in temperament, but he deserves first line duty.
Things that impressed me . . .
Sometimes playing defense doesn't mean throwing a big hit (even though the Caps outhit Carolina 29-19), it might just mean getting in the way. They did a good job of that for the most part. Shaone Morrisonn had another quiet, solid game.
The penalty kill did give up a goal, but seeing the units out there on the whole ice sheet instead of on the TV, the thing that impressed me is that unlike last year, this group attacks the puck carrier a lot more. They did a good job of taking away time and space.
There is a world of difference in Jakub Klepis' play from last year to this. He looks like he has more than a clue out there.
Kris Beech had a fine game. One thing he does well is take draws. Well, Carolina is a very good team at that (mostly due to Rod Brind'Amour), but Beech won more than he lost. And he was willing to throw the body around, too.
