misto's away tonight, an unfortunate  event where a friend was killed in (I presume) a robbery.

Clark scored to make it 3-0, then Laich for 4-0 (just as I got home), now the Pens have finally solved Kolzig to make it 4-1 with still over 12:00 left in the 2nd.

Caps hit the forecheck hard tonight right out of the gate, and that set the Pens back on their heels- they're more of a "rush" team than a "work" team.

And now the Caps with another PP- this could break this one wide open.

Wow- on the PK, the Pens get a 3 on 1 break, Kolzig with a huge stop, and Clymer clearing the rebound.....

nothing on the PP. Back to ES.

Pens get a PP but get nothing, and Kolzig makes a big save point blank on Armstrong. Caps look good tonight...

and here we go with the fisticuffs. Laich has Ruutu' jersey over his eyes, and is punching away.... Ruutu finally gets the takedown. Muir and Orpik, the linesmen just let them go..... Talbot tackled somebody, clothesline takedown from behind.... I'll wait for the stats to sort it out.

Caps are keeping Crosby in check pretty  much, Sutherby's job. Malkin it looked to me like they tried to close quick when the puck is on his stick, and make him get rid of it- worked so far, from what I've seen.

The officials still sorting through this, but Orpik has been tossed from the game- 5 for fighting, game misconduct; Ruutu 2:00 for instigating, 5:00 for fighting; Muir 2:00 for roughing, and another call I missed.

Now a delayed call on the Pens, and the Caps go back on the PP. Timeout.

The pens should surround Crosby/Malkin with some muscle.
Ruutu just doesn't cut it .

Think Cementhead and Gretzky

Beech's goal was a PP, both Clark's at ES (Ovechkin/Zubrus with the assists on both), and Laich's was a shorty.

Nasreddine gives Ovie a push after a play, Beech comes in and gets in his face, Talbot comes in for the Pens...... no calls.

Sutherby denied from 3 feet.... Kolzig save at the other end. Just under 3:00 left 2nd.

Christiansen rips one in right at the 2:00 mark to cut the lead to 4-2.... great shot- nothing Kolzig could do. Pens are pumped, now.

Icing Caps at 1:24.....

And Malkin feeds Crosby to make it 4-3 at 1:17.

Hockey game in the 3rd coming up.

4-3 Caps, end 2nd.

Pens on the bench look stoked as they go in the room.

No way the Caps can lose this one !

It is defining moment for the caps !

I'd have to agree. Make or break for the team this season.

He gets a bad rap on the boards, but they were playing well with him (he's tied for best +/- on the Caps going into tonight), and gave up 2 easy goals after he got tossed.

The kiss of death: Vs announcer says the Caps haven't blown a 4 goal lead in 15 years.....

edit: he may have said "at home".... I'm not sure.

I am surprised that this game isn't be being shown (I have basic cable) up here.
Crosby and AO are the STARS in every NHL commercial.
TSN now shows MNF and they are paying for it tonight.

Malkin ties it on a spectacular diving goal.

Putting Crosby and Malkin on the same line pays off bigtime for the Pens.

The Caps need to win this one

Yes they are. And they show them on the bench, talking, pointing, shareing that knowledge. They are going to be a duo for a long, long time. Too bad Ovie doesn't have that kind of help this early- he's good, but if he had a Malkin or a Crosby to learn more from, he'd be unstoppable.

but he needs a true goalscorer to play with him

Great one on one action at both ends, good saves by both goalies.

Well you fit into this town perfectly.

My remotes can't take this anymore. For the first time in three years,  another remote to the is in pieces at the base of the wall near the TV.

Temper, temper......

the only advantage the Pens still hold over the Caps is the fact they have at least two of the top young talents in the League to the Caps' one, and those two are feeding off each other, learning more every game.

Management needs to get Ovechkin some help, and sooner rather than later. A veteran Dman wouldn't hurt, either.

I know Leonsis has said that next year is the real playoff push, but I think last night was a good example of how high the Caps might reach this season, if only they had a little more help. I'm almost hoping they stay in the playoff picture until the trade deadline, just to see if they really comprehend what could be in store for this team.

Roger, I definitely agree with you that they need more help sooner rather than later. Olie is playing out of his mind right now, and looks like it might be a career for him. If the Caps are going to make a huge push to make the playoffs and ultimately the Cup, do they do it with Olie still at net, or simply groom out the front and get a decent goalie in a few years?

This team appears so close, and to keep the momentum going, I hope they do get someone else to compliment Ovie. Semin is absolutely phenomenal, but they're not the dynamic duo that they could be, yet.
