0-0, 6:29 into the game and... surprise, surprise... Kolzig in goal.

Only one shot in those 6:29! Sutherby, denied by Thomas.

Then Allen called for roughing, and double minor for Clymer, so 4-on-4 then PP for the Bruins, but no shot.

Shot #2 by Pettinger, denied.

Raich-Clymer fight!

Shot #3 by Jurcina, against his former goalie.

A couple of big hits registered earlier, by Eminger and Stuart.

Still no shot by the Bruins after 10 minutes of play.

Kessel shoots, and shoots again on the rebound: denied by Kolzig, who had not fallen asleep, fortunately.

Were Ovechkin and Semin on separate PP units, like the last game? IMO they need to keep those two together, they're usually the only two that can move the puck & maintain possession.

"Were Ovechkin and Semin on separate PP units, like the last game?"

They were together for the Caps' only PP so far, at least:

Ovechkin Zubrus Clark Semin Clymer
and
Ovechkin Laich Zednik Heward Green

Bruins scores right off a faceoff! Bochenski, first goal as Bruin (he had two with the Blackhawks). 1-0 Bruins.

...

Zednik, denied by Thomas! Sounded like a good chance.

That's more or less what Kolbe said, I believe, although he didn't seem to blame Zednik for that. He was a little too late on the rebound, perhaps?

Re: Game 55 vs. BOSTON Bruins

February 6 2007, 8:45 PM

There's already a recap of the game (first period, actually) in the past tense on the Bruins' website:

"Despite playing in the home of super soph Alexander Ovechkin, goaltending was the story early in the game. The Boston Bruins Tim Thomas, made 10 saves in the first period to keep the Washington Capitals off the scoreboard. As well as their defense played, however, the B's started the game with only two shots in the opening stanza. The Black & Gold could hang their hats on a little bit of toughness they displayed in the first 20-minutes. Bruins call-up Jeremy Reich scored a decision in the fighting department after taking on the Caps Ben Clymer."

Re: Game 55 vs. BOSTON Bruins

Reich's callup was mentioned on their website, but they didn't say it was to replace Murray (although it's Bochenski, acquired on February 3, who took Murray's spot on the top line).

"Boston -- Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has recalled left-winger Jeremy Reich from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an emergency basis. Reich will be with the Bruins tonight for their game against the Washington Capitols."

Gotta love the fact that they don't know the name of our team.

Re: Game 55 vs. BOSTON Bruins

Reich won that easily- Clymer never got a punch in, that I saw.

If the Caps got 10 SOGs in the 1st, at least 6 of them must have been gifts from the scorer's table. While I was there (I left at 8:51 left 1st), there had not been a legitimate save by either goalie in the period. Lots of blocks, but no shots.

And what's with Ovechkin with only 4:00 TOI in the 2nd? Less than 11:00 for the game so far?

About Ovechkin's time of ice in the second period: I believe it was due to the 4-minute PK. And at even strength, Hanlon preferred Zednik's line to Ovechkin's.

In the third, though, Ovechkin is playing with Laich and Fehr, and Semin's on the top line.

FEHR SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES!!!!

Yeehaw! 2-1 Caps.

Shootout.

SEMIN... SCORES! The exact same goal as last game. 1-0 Caps.
Bochenski... hits the post!

Ovechkin... denied! Not a good night for him.
Bergeron... shoots and scores! 1-1.

Fehr... save by Thomas!
19-year-old Kessel... backhander, scores! Bruins win.

Caps with a point, though.

Re: Game 55 vs. BOSTON Bruins (L 2-3 SO)

February 7 2007, 7:38 PM

Alexander Ovech-kin called it the worst game of his career.

Not so much because the reigning rookie of the year only took two shots and went pointless for a third straight outing, his longest NHL drought - although that clearly bothered him.

What really disappointed Ovechkin about his Washington Capitals' 3-2 shootout loss to the Boston Bruins last night was the penalty he was assessed in the third period, leading to Patrice Bergeron's game-tying power-play goal.

"So it's my fault we lost game," Ovechkin said.
