Like I said in the game thread, in his last three games, Olie's numbers are:
71/75, 94.7%, 1.33 GAA.
The actual GAA is 1.27, because of the extra minutes. He already had the same kind of streak twice this season.
November 11 (1 GA), 13 (1 GA) and 15 (2 GA):
118/122, 96.7%, about 1.30 GAA.
January 4 (1 GA), 6 (2 GA) and 9 (2 GA):
78/83, 94.0%, about 1.62 GAA.
In the last three games, though, he had 47 less saves to make than in the three November games!
Kolzig faces 34 shots every 60 minutes. Brodeur only 28. In 43 games, Kolzig faced almost as many shots as Brodeur in 52 games.
Kolzig's current save percentage is 91.03, and he has a 3.04 GAA. If he had faced 28 shots per game, his GAA would be 2.51, and the Caps would be in the top half of the standings, I think.
He's currently 14th in the league in save percentage, which is not bad at all (the Caps are 24th in the league).
He's 5th in save attempts, behind goalies who have played 232 to 627 more minutes than him.
In other words, this goalie deserves to make the playoffs. With some help from the defense, he would. |
