Game 57 vs. NEW YORK Rangers (L 2-5)February 10 2007 at 8:30 PM | crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest) Forum Moderator |
| Left at 1-0 Rags, got home in time to see the second Ranger goal- 2-1, with time left in the 2nd period.
A fair fight between Sutherby and Hollweg (draw) in the 1st, and now one between Brashear and Orr (Brashear on a decision) in the 2nd.
Another Ranger PP...... 5:50 left 2nd.

Caps with a good crowd tonight (being called a sellout, looked very close from what I saw), booing Jagr every touch. I missed the Ovechkin goal..... all goals so far are PP. |

Regardless what people may think of them personality-wise, they're a very talented team and are going to be around for several years.
2-1 Rangers, end 2nd. |

they would be around for years if there wasn't a thing called the salary cap.
cannot see how the pens(no matter what city they are in) can afford all three(plus fluery and some d) .
3-2 (sundin) in tor
minny are up 4-1 against the canes |

Caps are burning up the ice with 11 SOGs after 2 (I left when they had 2 in the 1st, they ended up with 6 for the period)..... |

By the way- toughhockey is back, on official- people are saying it's time for you to get back there, too. Don't know what it takes to get back in the mods' good graces, but everyone hopes you check it out. You're missed, over there. |

Scoring chances in this game are 12-3, Rangers.... and it's still a 1 goal game. Yikes.
My bad, above- the Caps have 12 SOGs, not 11. |

Caps get an early PP at 18:29 of the 3rd, and there's a timeout for...... what else? Checking out the glass behind Kolzig. Got a pane to change, it'll be a few. |

Clark gets the 4th PP of this game- a strange bounce comes to his backhand off the boards, right in front of Lundqvist. Rangers complaining about that corner of the ice. |

Now the Caps go on the PK, as Kolzig whacks Avery a good one and gets the roughing penalty. Zednik serves it. |

After getting the Caps' D running around, Rozsival puts the Rangers back on top 3-2. 15:43 left in regulation. All 5 goals tonight on the PP.
Bettman smiles. |

Ovechkin with a clean breakaway, puts the rolling puck on his backhand, and doesn't really get it on net..... |
|
crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest) Forum Moderator | Re: Game 57 vs. NEW YORK Rangers | February 10 2007, 9:14 PM |
Kolzig goes down, Straka shoots high......
4-2. 13:51 left in regulation.

Now Green hits Prucha from behind, the Caps go on the PK, and the wheels are almost all the way off the cart. |
|
crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest) Forum Moderator | Re: Game 57 vs. NEW YORK Rangers | February 10 2007, 9:21 PM |
They kill it off and stay in the game, but only 10:45 left in regulation. |
|
crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest) Forum Moderator | Re: Game 57 vs. NEW YORK Rangers | February 10 2007, 9:31 PM |
Caps get a late PP at 5:22 left- now or never. |

crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest) Forum Moderator | Re: Game 57 vs. NEW YORK Rangers | February 10 2007, 9:41 PM |
Hanlon thought so, too- empty net with 2:05 left in regulation.
Now penalties to both teams makes it a on 4 with 1:42 left....
Kolzig pulled again, but back for a faceoff in the Caps' end at 1:33....
pulled again..... 1:15....
1:00....
:45....
:30....
Straka buries the ENG at :29.5 left.
5-2 final. |

The problem with tonight was this: they were looking to make big hits but forgot that they needed to shoot the puck to win.
Schultz plays the body better than the puck. Green was a bit uneven tonight.
Sean Avery is only a half-decent player, but he's good at getting under opponents' skins.
I hope the Capitals make it a rule to never pursue a top-flight, big-name free agent ever again. They will always be overpaid but underperforming in a Caps sweater, and the Caps will still have to pick up half the tab once they're traded to 'name' teams, where they'll re-flourish.
