Per tarik's blog today:

Center Brian Sutherby will miss 7-10 days with a freak hand injury after being struck by Wade Belak's shot during the Caps' 5-1 victory over the Leafs on Friday.

Sutherby suffered a rare condition called compartment syndrome near his thumb, which had to be lanced at Sibley Memorial Hospital to relieve the pressure. The wound will remain open for a few days, then after it's stitched up, he'll need about a week to recover.

From Tarik's blog today:

Brian Sutherby, out with severely bruised right thumb (it's actually compartment syndrome), had the wound stitched up on Thursday, but hasn't been able to skate because of the fear of infection. He could miss the rest of the season.
