Game 82 vs. BUFFALO Sabres (L 0- )April 7 2007 at 2:16 PM | crowesnest (Login reallycrowesnest) Forum Moderator |
| - Not a lot to say about this game- I stayed for 10:00, and left with the score 2-0 Buffalo (both really atrociously weak goals).
All I can say is about 12 of these guys shouldn't be back next season, with about 3 of those 12 not even playing in the NHL. That said, I expect a turnover of maybe 5 players, and not a great deal of help for Ovechkin, Semin, and (hopefully) Backstrom.

2-0 Buffalo, end 2nd.
The Sabres are skating at about half speed, or the score would be much, much worse.
In an interview, Leonsis said the same old he always says- ticket revenues up a couple million $ this season, but thinks the ticket base will expand when the team starts to win (like that's going to happen in our lifetimes). Need to change some of those local Buffalo fans to Caps fans (his words, not mine- there were more Buffalo jerseys there today than Caps' jerseys).... on this season- two steps forward, one step back.... "rebuild is pretty much over", look for trades around draft day, look for a couple of FAs.
In an interview, Langway said they need to get Ovechkin some help. Well, damn- most of us are as smart as an NHL legend- we've been saying that for over a season now.
In an intermission interview, Ovechkin says "no good season for us, but we get some experience.... we get good chances, but goalie (Miller) play good .... I think I can play better..... we can't do nothing right, right now. Me and Semin excited to play (in the Worlds)."

14:12 left in the 3rd, Briere gets a game for a spear of Jurcina, among several scrums in front of Kolzig. Sabres end up with a PP out of all this, with at least 2 guys for in the box for each team.
Actually, the Sabres were already on a PP, so it ended up the Sabres finished their 4 on 3 PP, then almost a minute of 4 on 4, and then a Caps' PP for about 2:50 on which they put in a weak effort for the most part, with their usual nothing to show for it- not even a SOG on a long PP.
ES, 9:12 left in the season.

5:30 left and the Caps on another PP (and I forgot to mention the 4:00 PP the Caps had near the end of the 1st period with no result), Miller just flat out stones Beech for the second time in the game. |

3:30 to go, Benenati wraps it up for the TV crew.....
1:30....
1:00, EN for the Caps (who knows why)....
Hanlon diagramming frantically with :57.1 left during his timeout....
:30.3 ....
:16.7....
:10.8 Miller save....
thankfully, this disaster of a season is finally over.
2-0 Sabres, final (please notice I put the Caps' score, 0, in my original post of the thread title).

If I were to edit that first post, it would only be to say that Hanlon should be counted among the 12 I mentioned, and that Mcphee might be as well. Little to no movement on draft day, and a slow start to free agancy, should be enough to finally get both of them canned (although that would be about three months too late, and would seriously hamstring any new management brought in after that). |

If change is coming to Washington, then I'd like for it to start with this guy:
Scott Hannan's pulling in about $2.2M in this his contract year, yet he's bound to fetch only up to half of what Sheldon Souray will be getting in the FA market. ________________________
