:10 in, we have an icing on the Isles, but the next minute seems all Caps, even in their own end....RDP nice save on Green's shot.... Motzko muffs the shot.... and at 17:54, the Caps have 4 SOGs, and the Capslook in control.
they got in, but took almost :30 to set up, and the Caps got it out immediately....
again at 1:16.... Pettinger keeps the puck in the Isles' end.... :32, and the Caps clear it the length again.... :11 the Isles get set up again, and the Caps with the kill.
Nice pass out to Brashear for a long shot, but RDP with the easy save.
One miscue behind Kolzig's net, and it's 1-0 Isles- Bergenheim's first goal in a year and a half. At least it wasn't his first NHL goal ever, like most times.
Oh, yeah- the Caps get one break tonight, Jon Sim is out for the year....
.... Three guys uncovered around the net is a failure to play basic defense, not the "fall-back and fire it out of the zone defense" they've played in the past.
If 2-3 forwards are low, at least one forward should be backchecking. Looking at the replay just now, it looks like Nylander was skating circles above the faceoff dot, instead of finding the uncovered man down low. Green was too far from the boards for the obvious dump around. And there was some bad luck on top of that.
They're still better off on the attack, as they have been all period. They just can't blow basic coverages like that and allow odd-man situations.
I like Jupe, even if he is on my ignore list- always turns into a he said- he said, instead of talking about the game. But when it's about the game, as above, it's usually dead on.
While I was away (AOL screwup, and I had to reboot), the Caps draw a couple penalties, and get :53 of a 5 on 3 of their own. Time to get even, or get out.
Well you should have stayed... :51 into the 3rd, and the Isles score, but it's under a very long review- looked like it went off fedotenko's shoulder, and the booth is looking for some reason to overturn the "no goal" call on the ice....
So true, Michael. And now the fans at official are letting the dogs out, Kolzig as the # 1 target:
First poster: Good job, Loaf.
Response: Ever post anything that isn't namcalling or juvenile?
What does a goalie have to do over the course of his career to get your respect?
I have no problem with someone saying a goal was soft, or a player had a bad shift or a bad game. Players like Jagr deserve even more. But I don't think you can point to a player in Cap's history who has done more for the team than Zilla (maybe as much, but not more). So why all the insults? - You don't like him? Fine. But you DO like the Caps right? He is the greatest goalie to ever put on a Caps sweater. How about you show just a smidgen of respect and stop calling him names?
Or not...whatever.
I just don't understand people who profess to be a fan then spend every breath trashing the players and the team. Don't give me the "we are Caps fans. We complain therefore we are" garbage. There is a difference between complaining about legit problems (which we all do) and your incessant childish name calling.
3rd poster responds: No, you are wrong and I understand that a lot of people on these boards overreact.
But when the 5th highest paid goalie in the NHL who has had 6 days off and really only plays about 55 games per year (SIGNIFICANTLY less than the other 15 highest paid goalies) comes out and just flat out quits, that sucks. It sucks. I'm sorry, but the fans and other players have a right to say it sucks.
Yes, Olie has had a great career, but to be paying top 5 money to a bottom half #1 sucks. He is a great person, does a ton for the community, and has been a Washington sports SUPERHERO, but his effort tonight was beyond atrocious. He is better than that and deserves to be called out for this type of effort.
I must say, I agree with # 3 here. And I've said since last March, it's time for Hanlon to fall on his sword for the good of the team.
