Interesting stats, but I still believe in our chances. In my opinion, if Carolina loses tonight and the Caps win, we have better chances to make the playoffs than they do. We'd be only one point behind with a game in hand.
I predict the Caps will make the playoffs, and even with more points than the team ranked 8th.

Great pass from Backstrom again- this kid indeed does have eyes for the entire rink. That puts him 7 assists behind the Caps' rookie record, set by..... no surprise- Alex Ovechkin.
The third breakaway was the good one, hehe. Maybe because Steckel and Schultz are not exactly snipers. Assists to Mr. Backstrom and... Kolzig (second of the season).
1-0 Caps, end 1st. Speaking of Mr. O, next Wednesday CSN is having the Ovech-cam... CSN shows the game, and their alternate channel will have a camera on Ovechkin the entire game- on and off the ice.
Also, on March 9, NHLNetwork is having an Ovech-tival....
5:00 EST : 12/29/07 Capitals vs Senators - 4 goals and 1 assist 7:00 EST : 01/31/08 Canadiens vs Capitals - 4 goals and 1 assist 9:00 EST : 03/03/08 Bruins vs Capitals - 3 goals and 2 assists.
Wow, great, I only used the proxy to connect to Yahoo video, and I disabled it after that because this forum was slow as heck. So now I have this forum and the Caps radio working well, plus the video, very smooth. Only problem: I can't set the sound on the video nor the radio, so both are loud.
OK, I stopped the Caps radio. This one (CAR-ATL) will end half an hour before the Caps game, anyway, so I'll listen to the radio later. I'll check the sheets at nhl.com plus your comments.

In Atlanta, Cole loses his helmet fighting for the puck, and keeps playing, passes to Staal, behind the net, who tries to score a wrap-around goal, Hedberg stops him, but the puck hits the skate of a Thrasher and goes in.
5-2 'Canes.

Thrashers are completely dominating. Two consecutive great saves by Cam Ward to keep Carolina's 2-goal advantage. Both with his right leg, while sitting on the ice.

Bad call, ruled no goal. it was easily over the line before the whistle, and we fans could see it on the replay, no idea why the powers that be could not.
Speaking of which, here's the reason Ovechkin didn't get an assist on the Backstrom goal (he didn't touch the puck), from an article in the Washington Times this morning:
Backstrom had a mini-breakaway seconds later but was rebuffed by Miller. Buffalo forward Steve Bernier tried to skate out of danger, but Ovechkin spun him around at the blue line and forced him to lose control of the puck.
Viktor Kozlov picked it up and sent a pass to Backstrom, who was alone in front of the net. Backstrom slid a backhanded shot between Miller's legs for his 11th of the season and second in as many nights.
Bernier actually had skated the puck past the blue line, but his stick brought it back into the Caps' offensive zone after Ovechkin's hit, which nullified a potential offsides call.
And injury reports, from the same article:
Kolzig, who finished the night with 25 saves and is one win from 300 for his career, had a scary moment 12 seconds into the second period. He left his crease and dove to knock the puck away from danger, but Buffalo's Daniel Paille crashed into him.
"It wasn't my normal play there, but I felt, 'What the [heck]? I've got a good start on him,' and it worked out OK," said Kolzig, who had a stiff neck and a minor headache but no worries about a concussion.
Center David Steckel was not so lucky. After falling down in front of the Caps net, he nearly took a slap shot from the right point in the face. He got his hand up in time to deflect it, but the Caps rookie will miss two to three weeks with a broken right index finger.
