Speaking of "did say" my favorite opera person lately is Natalie Dessay- we have a station here that's like MTV for longhairs, and they show several of her scenes from various operas. I've read she thinks of herself more as an actress who sings, rather that a singer who acts. I'd have to agree.
edit: and I meant that in a good way- I think she's a phenomenal singer, but a better actress. Seems to really become the character she's portraying.

It's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard in person. Too gorgeous for words. Some passages were simply sublime, like the duet at the end of act 1. I got lucky with singers, orchestra, conductor, staging. 10 out of 10.
Yes, Natalie Dessay is great. I've never seen her in person, but it could happen soon. Especially if she sings more Baroque music (I'm not a big fan of bel canto).
I'm not really knowledgable about things like classical music or opera/dance (wouldn't know "bel canto" if it kicked me in the ass), but I leave the TV on all night tuned to this (and, true story- I wake up every time it's one of ND's videos). I'm learning as I listen/watch. I'm more and more impressed with the artistry the more I watch, but I'm sure it's nothing compared to the live experience.
Tarik's blog today (I don't have a link- or maybe it was his online chat http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2008/03/10/DI2008031001176.html ) -anyway, he mentioned how pissed Eminger was that, now that Erskine's down, they called up Lepisto instead of putting him in the lineup. Boudreau brushed it off as they wanted a lefthander and didn't want to break up the Shultz-Poti combo, but Eminger's taking it personal, I guess. He apparently thought he was gone at the trade deadline, but he's still here, and in limbo.
Looks like on Laich's second goal, which was originally said unassisted, they had soon after that given an assist to Ovechkin (point #99 after his primary assist on Laich's first goal), but it's been corrected, and it's now Laich from Cooke and Lepisto (first NHL point). But Ovechkin is back to 99 with his goal.
Caps in total control, according to the Thrashers' announcers.

Considering the Caps are only 1 point behind the Sabres but 7 points behind the Hurricanes, I don't see what's so funny about that.
Yes, but actually I think it's better this way. Since the Caps are winning, the Sabres are not going anywhere; they're still one point ahead, while the 'Canes are now "only" five points ahead (and the Caps still have one game in hand on them). So, for tonight, I'll be happy with that.
Also, I was glad to see Carolina's winning streak put to an end this way, mwahahaha. We need to win-win-win, and also, we need the 'Canes to lose-lose-lose. It can happen.

We gotta also look in the rear-view mirror, though: Rangers 2 - Panthers 2, end second. Caps only one point ahead of them at this point, but Panthers have played one more game.

If we fail to make the playoffs, let's remember that when Hanlon got fired, we were dead last in the league (if I'm not mistaken). And we could end the season with as many wins as losses (yes, I count OTL as defeats, this time, hehe): 34-38 so far. There was practically no chance to make the playoffs when Boudreau took control. They're still not there but they won't give up. They keep the season interesting for us.
