West coast games are tough.... I freely admit, I was sleeping through this one.

Caps led early on, an ES goal by Fedorov from Shultz and Ovechkin, and it stayed that way through 1.

Here's where I should have kept sleeping.... Flames scored on a 5 on 3 PP goal with 1:00 gone in the 2nd to tie it, and then a Mike Green "turnover"- he was deep in the O zone, tried a pass, and it got blocked out far enough, he couldn't recover fast enough, and Theodore looked like a deer in the headlights again.... 2-1 Flames after only 2:42 of the 2nd. Now, with 5:52 left 2nd, it's again a 5 on 3 for thr Flames.....

they kill the 2MA, and now all of it.... JT save. TV timeout.

2:38 left 2nd, and after 8 straight- that's right, I said 8 straight- penalties on the Caps, the Caps finally get a PP (the only Flames penalties before this was all on Rene Bourque- 5:00 for fighting, 2:00 for instigator, 10:00 misconduct, and 2:00 unsportsmanlike, all at 7:33 of the 1st)....

on the Caps' PP, a Flame blows right by Ovechkin with the puck, and breaks in 2 on 1 SH on Theodore.... and misses the net. Back to ES.

2-1 Flames, end 2nd.

I should also say, Tyler Sloan was called up from Hershey, and is on the road trip as the 6th D. He's +1 so far tonight (along with Ovechkin, Semin, Shultz and Fedorov). Boudreau shook the lines up tonight- Fedorov on the 1st, Backstrom on the 2nd....

2:06 gone 3rd, Cap in the box again.... steal by Ovechkin, but his SH chance goes wide of the net.... penalty killed, but literally right back in the box for the Caps. 9th time shorthanded for the Caps tonight.... and killed.

13:30 left in regulation.... icing Flames with 12:13 left.

 

 

 

9:05 left in regulation, another TV timeout.

I shoulda stood in bed. Snoozer game tonight...

Icing Flames at 8:54... save Kiprusoff at 8:47... at 7:03, Backstrom gets knocked down, and it's Caps to the PP.

Cleared... cleared at 1:28... cleared at 1:09... Kippy covers at :53... Ovechkin complaining he was slashed, but no call... cleared at :19... killed...

and the Flames immediately come down 3 on 1, but Theo makes the save.

 

4:45 left in regulation... 3:20, JT gloves...  Backstrom gets hit behind Kippy, and the Flame stick gets caught in the glass (play continues)... 2:29 ... Kip covers at 2:11...

1:30... 1:15... Kiprusoff gloves at 1:13... timeout is called... Caps with the EN.

Under 1:00... :45... Fedorov plays goalie at :30... :15...

icing Flames at :08.9. Both teams have used their timeouts.

Great thread, considering the terrible game.

I could not follow this one, of course. Too late and too early at the same time.

Well, a few fun facts I slept through (thank goodness for little favors):

1. the Caps had a 9:00 PP which they turned into a 7:00 PP by taking an offensive zone penalty, got only 4 SOGs in the whole thing, and failed to score on it.

2. even with a 9:00 PP, the Caps were outshot in the 1st period.

3. Calgary had four 5 on 3 PPs.

Terrible is an understatement.
