Well I'll start this as Roger is at the game. LOL my 2 teams playing each other. Oh Well. But as I am a Pens fan 1st then you know who I am rooting for.
Rock the Red vs It's a great Day for Hockey
End of 1st 2 1 Caps. However, both teams are making too many mistakes.
1st goal Crosby. 1st Cap goal Steckel 2nd Cap goal goes to Ovie.
Bettman must be thrilled with this match up the best of the league The hype of Crosby and Ovie and Malkin and Ovie. Wow!!! Maybe though this might just help hockey and bring in some more fans. That can only be a good thing.

And Pens get an opportunity very soon after that, but Varlamov with a good kick save! I think I hear the Pens fans, Caps fans should be louder than that.
I've had a look at the official boards, and apparently Caps fans are OK with booing their team if it doesn't play well enough. Terrible fans, they are.
Varlamov with a huge save on Crosby, who had a wide-open net!
I meant: you can boo a bunch of overpaid stars who don't look like they care, but not the best group of young talented players in the NHL. They need encouragements.
"Where Gonchar has Green beat, however, is playoff performance. Gonchar was a key element of the last Washington team that won a playoff round -- 1998, when he had 7 goals and 11 points in 21 games as the Caps reached the Stanley Cup Final. In 51 playoff games with Washington, Gonchar had 13 goals and 31 points.
Green has just 1 goal and 5 points in seven games this postseason and 4 goals and 12 points in 14 playoff games, with one series victory."
Gonchar: 13-18-31 in 51 playoff games
Green: 4-8-12 in 14 playoff games...
... which would be 14-29-43 in 51 games. I fail to see how that makes Gonchar better than Green in the playoffs.
Must add that Green has decided to focus on defense in the playoffs.

Semin is now tied for first in points, and Backstrom is leading the league alone in assists. But who cares about these rankings? The only thing that counts is to win this game and the series.
Sounds it will be a very hard series for the Caps, but hopefully, they can reproduce this huge defensive effort and win at least all of their home games. This should be enough.
I left right before the Eaton goal (1st was sloppy as said above), as things in our section (actually the row directly in front of me) were heating up to the point that Security had to come up and settle things down.
Decent crowd noise, I've heard louder. Game 2 might be very different.
Considering that Ovechkin hit the post four times, they can't really say they were unlucky in this one. Caps deserved the win.
Varlamov made 34 saves, another great game from him.
Fleury allowed 2 goals on 8 shots in the first period, another goal on the Caps's first shot of the third period, and was saved by his posts several times.
Funny thing is that Varlamov has hurt his stats, despite a 2.0 GAA and a 94.4% save percentage.
No, they can't, and Crosby had several good chances that went awry as well- couldn't control the puck or passes with wide open nets, once his stick shattered, the usual things. Best thing that happened to the Caps was the 5 on 3, because in my eyes the regular PP unit was off the mark again. here's ovechkin with a late interview.... "we're happy we scored the 3rd goal.... 2nd was 'not normal goal' ...." not a lot else. I got the impression they don't think they played all that well again, but got away with it thanks to the play of the checking line.
