Word is Fehr is out tonight (and probably Nylander in in his place). The rest of the Caps seem to feel the best game tonight will be to stay out of the box and stay disciplined.

We shall see....

Fleury had gone behind to play the puck, and it shot right by him to Ovie for the open net goal!

 

Yes, and hopefully, no penalty against the Caps in the last 15 minutes.

They should clear the crease a little better, too. I just can't believe that they let Crosby score three goals in the same position last time...

Caps with Nylander-Gordon-Clark as their 4th line. Two of them were first-liners not too long ago, and I believe that Gordon also centered the top line in the past.

A detailed description of "the goal"- the puck come in to Fluery's left... he takes a step or two out of the crease to his left to play it, but he seems to lose his grip on his stick and drops to (I think) his right knee... the puck ricochets off the endboards and possibly off his stick, right to a stumbling Ovechkin.... before Fluery can get fully turned, he dives back toward the crease, but it's way too late.

Caps on the PP now... 

And killed, with a great save at the end by Fleury (I think I spelled it right this time)...

and a TV timeout.

Now the Pens get a PP, the worst penalty the Caps can take- in possession, in the offensive zone, and Nylander gets called for interference.

Dumb. Just dumb.

Were I Boudreau, I think I'd shorten my bench a man about now. TV timeout...

play resumes with about 4:20 left... lots of action, Theo almost blows another one when he gets tangled with fedorov behind his goal... great stops by VarLAmov... the Caps on the O with 1:30 left.... Eaton loses his stick.... puck out of play with 1:06 left 1st.

 

Nylander not benched after this penalty, he took two more shifts.

"Theo almost blows another one": you're so used to Theo blowing ones, that you call Fleury Theo when he's bad.

Caps get a delay penalty for the net off, and I have to agree- Varly made the great save, but Jurcina dislodges the net.... :25.9 left 1st...

Pens on the PP... Malkin shoots, Varly saves... :14.1 left... wow Varly a good save with about :01 left, another just after the horn.

1-0 Caps, end 1st, Pens still on the PP to start the 2nd.

Well who can spell Marc-Andre when they're in a hurry? Theo is so much easier....

Pens: Crosby and Malkin not on the same line (it was a possibility). Crosby with Guerin and Kunitz; Malkin with Talbot and Fedotenko.

Scoring chances were even at 7-7, according to Kolbe. Shots were 8-8.

Fedotenko and Jurcina with 4 hits. Totals are 19-12 Pens.

Faceoffs: 12-7 Caps (63%).

Varlamov with a good kick save early in the second period. And I lose Kolbe's voice.

2nd on, Pens still on the PP, but despite a couple shots the Caps kill it. Stoppage with 18:23 left 2nd.

 

OK, I got Kolbe back, on another website. Sound is much better than the link on the Caps' website, actually, but I believe it's rather late (like one minute).

Big hit by Kunitz on Morrisonn gets the crowd roaring.

Varlamov with a save on a shot that he never saw coming, according to Kolbe!

I'll temper my excitement accordingly (if there is any more.... some hitting going on, but not a lot of action from the Caps' side of things. The Pens are on the offense this period.)

Caps pinch at their offensive blue line and the puck squirts free.... the Pens break out, it's a 2 on 1.....

2-on-1 for the Pens, Fedotenko and whoever vs. Jurcina, and Fedotenko scores! He had been very strong in this game so far. It's not undeserved.

Assists to Talbot and Letang. Not sure about who was with Fedotenko, since it sounded like he didn't make the pass, but scored on his own rebound.

Right off the faceoff, Pens with a dangerous shot, Varlamov makes the save.

Immediately, Green heads for the box and a TV timeout with 9:55 left 2nd....

Varly the save right off the draw... finally cleared with 1:24 left PP.... puck out of play, 1:11 PP...

cleared at :25 PP... stoppage at :13, no idea whybut it goes out of the zone...

Caps just killed a penalty against Green, allowing just two shots.

Fedorov in pain, possibly his wrist.

EDIT: sounds like Gill unintentionally hit him in the ribs with his stick.

Now Fedorov off injured- he got tangled up with Gill, and dropped to the ice holding his wrist. he was down a while, and skated off in what looked like great pain. The TV guy said it looked like his wrist bent "unnaturally".

Caps dominated. Gotta be strong and reach the second intermission (in a little more than 3 minutes) at 1-1.

A shot of Feds on the bench actually shows him holding his left side, like a lower rib injury. He's still in a LOT of pain...

Varly save, Varly save, Varly glove save at 2:44 left 2nd.

Varly give a Pen a stick in the leg with :43.6 left, and it's the Pens on the PP at the end of the period again...

I don't think that, in their situation (leading the series 2-0), being dominated is a bad thing for them. It's actually frustrating for the Pens. They are the best team on the ice right now, but can't take the advantage.

and killed! Letang stopped twice.... Caps with lots of pressure now... again... finally the Pens get it cleared... VarLAmov "fantastic" according to the TV guys...

And now Varlamov with a diving save on a shot by Dupuis on his own rebound.

And a Cap gets called. Like we need to kill penalties in the third period.

Just after i typed that, Varly made his best save of the night (after giving the puck away)... but now Ovechkin turns thug, and crushes Crosby from behind and into the net well away from the puck-

In other news, Fedorov is back. Before the penalty, he had a shift with Kozlov and Fleischmann. Ovechkin is playing with Semin and Backstrom.

Fedotenko with a partial breakaway, Varlamov with the save! I feared this Fedotenko more than I fear Crosby and Malkin. He should be one of the three stars. Varlamov should be one too.

Boudreau has shuffled the lines now, Fleishmann with Fedorov and Kozlov, Ovechkin with Backstrom and Semin.... a TV timeout with just under half the 3rd left in regulation.

I haven't checked yet if the Pens have changed anything.

From 9:00 to 8:00 left, all Pens- the line of Malkin, Kunitz and Guerin...

What the Caps need now is a Pen getting called.

On the score sheet, they had started to put the interference penalty on the Caps' side, but it eventually was given to Dupuis, and Caps had the PP they needed. Wow! The crowd is suddenly silent.

And now Caps are dominating. Why is it that our guys have to be in a bad situation to wake up?

Hahaha! I was about to say, "next goal is even more huge!"

What is sure, now, is that the Pens can dominate the Caps for 60 minutes, they're still unable to beat them in regulation. I don't think they feel too great right now. It must hurt to get scored on like this when you think your opponent is dead.

It's OK, I saw the Caps losing game 3 and winning game 4, anyway. Would have been great to take a 3-0 lead, though.

Caps must be a little stronger overall, and not rely too much on their goalie.

Only saw bits and pieces of the game but it looked like a good one.
Although I am still mystified on why a team down 2-0 in a series would insert Satan into their lineup.Silliness
