This should be an interesting game. Go, Caps!

Top headlines on NHL.com:

- Is Crosby best player in Pens-Caps series?
- Gonchar will not play tonight vs. Capitals
- No NHL discipline for Ovechkin in Game 5
- Caps: Ovie, Green, Semin must deliver in Game 5

Can't listen to the first period. Shots are tied at 8, although Caps had to kill a penalty (Semin for tripping). Needless to say, Fleury and Varlamov in goal. 5:15 left to the period.

And now, Guerin to the box for hooking, with 3:55 to go. Could be a good opportunity.

But it's killed by the Pens.

Period ends, 0-0. Shots: 12-11 Caps.

Don't know what happened, but there was apparently a skirmish after the buzz: Malkin, Orpik, Erskine and Ovechkin all called for roughing at the 20:00 mark.

I was in my kitchen when Staal opened the score, 5:17 into the second period, and when Ovechkin tied it, 59 seconds later, assisted by Poti. I'm listening to the radio, now. Go, Caps!

Semin with an opportunity, but he waited too long before releasing his shot.

Now, Erskine levels Kunitz, and the gets the crowd roaring.

And two good saves by Fleury on Backstrom. Caps seem to be dominating. It doesn't sound like the previous games, for sure.

Varlamov with some good saves in this period. And the Pens get called for too many men on the ice, Caps with an important PP.

BACKSTROM SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES!!!!!!! 2-1 Caps!!!

He had a few opportunities earlier in the period, but this one finds the back of the net. Great!

Fedorov and Ovechkin get the assists.

Ovechkin is now exactly tied with Crosby: 9-7-16.

Pothier in trouble, but it ends up being a 4-on-2 for the Caps and Laich with the chance! How things can change in a few seconds!

Second period ends with the Caps ahead. Should be a huge third period.

Third just started.

And it doesn't start too great, since Malkin is leading a rush and Fedotenko scores! 2-2, after 51 seconds of play in this period.

Guerin hits the goal post!

And now Pens score!!! Cooke, I think, on the rebound. 3-2 Pens.

Kolbe sounds upset. He said the Caps only had two shots in this period "and this has to change!"

Total shots are 31-24 Pens, but total attempts are tied at 54. The main difference is due to blocks.

Fleury has given up a few big rebounds, including one just before Cooke's goal and one right now, but there was no Cap to jump on them, apparently.

Indeed it was Cooke.... and the Caps have a whopping 3 SOGs in the 3rd.

Not gonna get it done.

I left first scrape after the Ovechkin goal, knowing if the Caps win, there's at least one more game at Verizon Center, and if they lose I didn't want to be involved in the crowd.

Vogel saying the Caps need some spark from someone like Semin.

Caps are probably playing the series in the last minutes of this game.

BB has gone to the line of Ovechkin, Backstrom and Semin, and he has Fedorov playing D with green so Green can jump in as a 4th forward.

"Not getting traffic" as Laughlin says......

desperation rearing its ugly head.

That's the story of the Caps in these playoffs: we have buried them several times before they were dead.

By the way, didn't mention who got the assists on Ovechkin's goal: Backstrom and Green. Ovechkin is now leading the league in goals and points. Backstrom is second in assists with 11. Crosby is scoreless (and -2). Ovechkin is also leading in plus-minus rating, with +8.

Or just edited the first post there....  wink.gif

I'm surprised fans haven't had heart attacks watching the Caps- they get outplayed for long stretches of games, but then turn on the juice and light the goal lamp just when they need it. Cardiac Caps.....

Laughlin says "I thought they (Penguins) were gonna take this thing to the end of the 3rd period, but then they stopped playing.... (Pens) were sitting back, shot beat the goalie cleanly."

Yes, what is surprising is that they're able to do this over and over. They need a goal, they score it.

And now Steckel almost scores in overtime!

And a sprawling save by Varlamov on a shot by Crosby!

Maybe Steckel should have tried to gain time instead of shooting, I don't know. Can't blame him, though, with the awesome PK job he's done in the playoffs.

Puck was jumping on him, he did what he could with it....

unfortunately the caps are still a one man band, and as Laughlin just said "one guy can't get it (done)"....

Pens in 6, I fear. See you Monday.

Pens had to go to OT twice to take this lead, though. I feel that the Caps can turn this around. "We shall see", like you say. They always surprised us, so it could be the same in Pittsburgh.
