FLYERS (22-17-6) at CAPITALS (28-9-5)
1 p.m. ET; NBC, TVA Sports, CSN-PH, CSN-DC, NHL.TV
Flyers team scope
Steve Mason could start in goal for the Philadelphia Flyers against the Washington Capitals on Sunday after Michal Neuvirth started Saturday and made 33 saves in a 6-3 loss to the Boston Bruins. The Flyers are 0-6-2 during an eight-game road losing streak and are 3-7-3 since winning 10 games in a row. In the loss to the Bruins, the Flyers allowed two power-play goals, a shorthanded goal and a goal on a rush. The Flyers have allowed eight shorthanded goals, the most in the NHL. "We got to shore it up," coach Dave Hakstol told CSN Philly after the game. "Three areas are obvious. Spending too much time killing penalties, turning pucks over in succession at a critical time in the game to pass on momentum, and then mistakes we are making this time of year, especially, on the rush coverage where it's been the last two or three games. Those are areas that get you in trouble."
Capitals team scope
Backup goaltender Philipp Grubauer could play in the first game of a back-to-back for Washington. Braden Holtby made 24 saves in his NHL-leading sixth shutout of the season in a 6-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. The Capitals have won eight consecutive games and are second in the NHL with 61 points. If they win, they would pass the idle Columbus Blue Jackets (62) for most points in the League. Through the eight-game streak, dating to Dec. 31, the Capitals have scored 35 goals. Coach Barry Trotz has not altered his lineup since. "The lines started getting an identity and you just let them keep creating that identity," Trotz said Saturday. "We've been fortunate. We've had good health. It's easy to keep the lines together when you're not ravaged with injuries. It's been good for us." Washington is 15-2-2 in its past 19 games and 17-5-1 at home this season.
