Killed, and Oshie even created himself a short-handed chance in the first minute of the penalty.

Caps playing very well.

Good kill- now get another goal before the break and I'll go to bed happy.

Hehe, same here. Not too worried, though. The Sens don't look too dangerous.

This time it's Ness, indeed, not that obvious penalty to me, but it has to be killed.

Ness for holding... the parade is under weigh (or is it way)...

Killed, awesome breakaway for Chiasson, who fires quickly but gets denied! Wow. Would have been good.

But we need to see the top two lines a little more, really.

End of first. 1-1.

Caps the best team on the ice. Gotta stay out of the box, though.

Ok! Good feed and a semi-decent period to start the season!

See you next time Marc!

By the way, Montreal practices at Kettler tomorrow noon, maybe I'll get a couple photos.

Very happy with the team, so far. I wonder who will be scratched when the punk Wilson will be back. Vrana, I guess.

Re: Game 1 at Ottawa Senators (W 5-4 SO)

Ok, an hour until off to work... let's see what happened:

https://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/wsh-vs-ott/2017/10/05/2017020008#game=2017020008,game_state=final

Ovechkin hatty and a SO goal, Kuz 3 assists and a SO goal...

by early 3rd, it's Sens 3-1. Then Alex apparently takes over, even after the Sens get the lead at 4-3.

Nice (in a season opener, at least they came back, nobody but Ovechkin kind of way).

Courtesy of Bob Mason at Bumper's:

FYI- Ovechkin passed Guy LaFleur this evening and is now tied with Modano for 24th all-time in goals.

I think it's great for Ovechkin. Good for his confidence to see his shots go in as soon as the season starts. He may have another big season, maybe 40 goals. At least, he must keep his 30-goal streak alive (12 consecutive seasons, so far; Jagr and Gartner had 15).

Looked like Vrana played well. So I guess it's Graovac who will sit when Wilson is back. There may be an injury by then, so we'll see...

Other great news yesterday: your Hawks spanked the Pens very hard, 10-1. All the Pens were minus-something. Crosby -4, Letang -5. Niemi was in goal for the Pens, he gave up 4 goals in less than 3 minutes, he was pulled after 9:16 of play, but Murray gave up 6 more. The only goal the Pens were able to score was on the power play: Kessel, from Crosby and Malkin.

2 losses for the Pens, so far (one in overtime).

Caps lead the Metropolitan Division (the Flyers also have 2 points, but in 2 games).

I know, it's early. wink.gif

Ovechkin scored #559, 560 and 561. He passed Guy Lafleur, indeed. Now #25 all time. Only 3 goals away from Sundin and Nieuwendyk, 12 from Modano, 16 from Recchi. He will probably do all he can to also catch Kurri this season, at 601 goals.

As for Jagr, he is 36 behind Gordie Howe. I guess he wants to get there, but that may be hard, even in two seasons, at his age. I think he can do it, though, especially if he scores more than 20 this season.

In goals per game, Ovechkin is 6th with 0.608. Gretzky is 7th with 0.601! Among the players who scored more goals than Ovechkin, only Bossy and Lemieux have a better ratio than him.
