Betty's Lodge is still alive and kicking though best to pre-book if you want to stay just to make sure there's somebody around. We've stayed where as late as July 2010 and are planning another trip later this year (2011) or next.

you should try out Camp JJ also on the other side. Betty takes all the money out of the region to finance her lifestyle in Hgn. What you spent at Camp JJ gets to stay in the place and develop the place. Rates is around K150 pp inclussive of meals.

Betty takes all the money out of the area to finance her lifestyle? I think most of the money she makes goes back to employing people and trying to keep her business alive. Of course she has to go to Hagen to do banking, collect supplies, fix her car and basically maintain comms with customers. Her children and grandchildren all live in Hagen so if she goes there it is not to concentrate of this 'lifestyle' you speak of. Talk business if you want to talk business, no need to put down another hard working person just because of you assumptions.

To Caamp jj,
Betty Higgins em trupela meri bilong PNG mate.
Like most people on this forum, you like to heap $h1t on some one you have probably never met. Why are you so envious of someone who has worked very hard for her money? She is not rich, (like most of your politicians) but if hard work counts, she should be a millionaire many times over. Unfortunately that seldom happens.
Once agai, I request the phone number for Betty's Lodge. I've checked the PNG white and yellow pages online and cannot find it.
Get you facts straight laka......Ralph.

Dear CampJJ,
there are three assumptions to be made from your missive.
1. You are stark raving bonkers.
2. You have a sense of humour, of the type not normally found in PNG people. Eminently equal, if not superior to, "The Best of British. (comedy) The thought of Betty Higgins wallowing in the flesh pots of Hagen reduces me to hysterics.
3. You have found the long lost script of the last Goon Show.(Never performed)
It is a little know fact that Spike Millagan was from Ialibu. It's just that he happens to be an albino. To the point. Recounting tales of his boyhood in Enga to Harry Secome one night, they decide to visit Enga one last time. Harry Secombe accompanied Milligan, disguised as a Huli Wigman. While Milligan was disguised as an Asaro Mudman. This was so they could travel inconspicuously.
It was whilst back in the land of his birth, that Milligan wrote that long lost script. Which, incidentally, people have been long searching the musty archives of the BBC for. They have been looking in the wrong spot.
But back to Hagen. I don't know if you have noticed lately, the steady arrival of multi million dollar yachts into Lae Harbour. Fronm which the rich and beautiful traverse the Highlands Highway to wallow in the luxury of the six star hotels, and casinos, of that erstwile destination for the rich and idle.
When interviewed, one millionaire said. "I will definitely be back for 'The Season' next year. Hagen has redefined 'La dolce vita'." unquote.
