| I have come to notice that the so called security firms are creating their own market.
Take for example for any business they have a marketing and research department, even if they don't have one, any senior mgmt performs that role. Now how do security firms plan their marketing stategy,development plans and new market penetration plans.
The marketing managers of security firms simpy wish rascol activities to increase so that they can have a market to supply their good "SECURITY". Sometimes they instill unnessary fear to their clientss of a possible hold up etc...just to get that contract.
Almost 99% of the security staff lives in settlements with their family, some have children but can't be able to sent their children to school due to school fee problems given their level of pay of something less than K140 per fortnight. They usually don't have enough bus fares etc...to go back to their villages regularly during Christmass or weekends due to bus fare, ship fare or airfare problems. So these children have lost touch with their traditional land and way of life - they roam the streets - and create more market for their fathers' security company by engaging in hold -ups, break and enter etc...
The security expenses is a cost to the business that engages them, that cost is passed on to final consumers like you and me in increrased prices of goods and services. For example 10 kg rice bag in Mendi or Wabag sells at around K38 whilst in Lae/Food Mart it sells for K40. No logic, isn't it. Here is the answer; food mart in Lae have to increase their price inorder to cover up for the 10 tens of Guard Dog security guards whilst in Mendi or Wabag only one or 2 checkout staff securtiy would do.
Real Looser are the ordinary working class people;
> working class peaple pay tax of about 30% of their total fortnightly salary to Gov't, so that Gov't can pay a policemen or policewomen to look after them. On top of the extra 10% GST,working class man/women have to pay for the security again in terms of increased cost of say the K10 KG rice bag. Work that are supposed to be rightly done by policemen are now done by security companies, so effectively we ordinary working class people are paying again for the service not been provided by a policemen which we have paid through our fortnightly payroll tax. As a wage/sarly earner you know how much you pay for tax each fortnight.
>this also brings me another issue of rapindly springing private clinics. We pay tax hoping to get a good health service from a public hospital & proper to get medical attention. We don't a good service there, some who could afford private clinic costs go there but most miss out and suffer. Why do I have to pay for a Malaria test & medecine for more than K50 because our governemnt run clinics and hospitals don't have these medecines in stock or don't have a Malaria testing kit. Just to get well and go back to work so that gov't can get 30% wages of that work's wages again for service that I won't receive.
Recomendation
1. Can govt improve police force and put quaters on security firm from employing so much people.
2. Ensure that those security staff are compensated fairly with proper housing and education scheme so that we don't want to see those kids as another market place for the secutiy firms.
3.Can we have a education system in place were kids in school as part of their Agricultuals studies to have a cash crop garden such as coffee or coca in their home provinces. Kids in cities can go over their term breaks and mind those gardens. In the event that they discontinue from studies, they can work the land.
4. Can the Gov't lower personal income tax rate to say 20%. PNG govt's tax rate is amongst one of the top 5 higherst tax rates payers. Help me if Iam wrong.
5. Provide incentives for new couples inteding to get married to test their HIV status and advice them accordingly. Provide these new families with start up things like bush knife, spade, seedlings etc...for villagers and may be a washing machine and other household items for those in towns and cities. Say about 10,000 , marriages each year so incentives of K1,000 staff cost is not that much which could cost PNG taxpayers about K10,000,000 => money well spent compared to K250,000,000 jet with annual operational costs of over K12,000,000 to transport one Papua New Guinean.
6.Subsise 30% of the school fees for 2 children per family up to grade 12 and encourage family planing.
I want to inform all those who have lost confidence in our Country and Government to reconsider - because PNG is blessed by our lord, good leaders are comming.
