Papindo most certainly does not create "thousands of jobs" in PNG. At the most, it creates maybe 600-800 jobs. If you don't even have that fact right, what are you basing your conclusion on?
If Papindo were owned by a true Papua New Guinean nationalist or nationalist family, they would plough the profits back into PNG instead of sending them overseas. That would allow far more jobs to be created than the real Papindo creates.
Don't swallow everything the foreigners tell you about how great PNG is because of them!

Few people realize that the name Papindo is a contraction of two words. Papua and Indonesia put together makes papindo = another of life's small mysteries explained. Papindo has made its money by stocking supermarkets with relatively cheaply made indonesian goods. While there is nothing wrong with this very successful business strategy, the trading arrangements are totally biased in favour of PNG's western neighbour. While Papindo imports large quanities of indonesian made goods into PNG, a national law passed by the indonesian parlaiment prohibits any PNG made goods from being shipped directly into either Papua or West Papau !!
Very unfair isnt it. Ask you local member to impose trade bans on any indonesian goods until fair trading arrangements are allowed on the other side of PNG's only land border.

Coke is not a PNG brand either. Much of the money we spent on Coke goes back to benefit Coca-Cola corporation of USA. Either way we lose. Our kina leave to enrichen people overseas.

Papua New Guinea is a little stone compared to huge boulders and rocks in this globalised economic world..thus we are thrown here and there and not steady because we have cowards running this country..Bainimarama is a leader that is needed in PNG, someone who is willing to put his foot down against international propaganda for what he beileves is right for his people....Sadly we are a country of cowards robbing each other of our meager possessions..so ye the foreigners are here to join the fun and rob us more

papindo is a really bad act in manus, underpaying staff, impregnating young girls, bribing politicians and stealing business from local companies, they are illegally involved in fisheries related activities, threaten and coerce the local far flung western islanders to trade with them exclusively or they dont get services by their unregistered boat which carries petrol and passengers at high prices (cheaper to go to lae then ninigo) all breaching NMSA statutes. However, Sir Chandra has a lot of freinds in the NA government so dont expect anything. Is the authorities played their parts, fines and charges would put them out of business in a relatively short time. indonesia cannot legally invade PNG but economic warfare is alive and thriving. tingting bl mipla ol mwanus tchol. Every business operates to make profit and Papindo is no exception. And in doing so, has contributed a lot to the nation building in terms of job, tax, donations and etc...
Doesn't matter who owns it and where it originates from is one of the big retail companies in the country.
Originator, what's your opinion about Papindo?

What you don't get is that the more cheap imported products we buy, the more we prevent PNG from ever developing its own home grown industries. Not only that, whenever we buy an imported product we send part of that hard earned money into the pockets of foreigners. That isn't helping PNG either.
Yes, cheap imported goods seem like a great thing in the short term. In the long term is it slowly but steadily impoverishing our country as more and more wealth drains out.

I worked in Papindo for many years. I know some of nationals worked there more than 20 years.Like Kiplin and Hans. They always train new Asian managers even they never graduate from primary school .And they max can get is supervisor.
Why our piple never get them trust. Are our people 2nd class people in our own land ? Answer me ,Tjandra.

I think Sir Tjandra is a pure businessman. He expands his business but he also gives back to the community. He practically took over the vanilla industry, he single handedly put every single png vanilla exporter out of business but in return, he still buys vanilla in Maprik because I think he realised that by putting everyone else out of business, he has a resppnsiblity to keep the industry going.
I am aware that he has provided teachers and police houses in the past (in the media) and I am sure there are other things that he is doing in PNG that are unreported.
He would certainly be the richest man in PNG but he does not act like it. He travels in economy class (I have seen been on flights where he was in economy) while many pretenders will travel in business or first class.
I know that Papindo carries PNG goods, like the Noni juice that is made in Lae. His business strategy is to go for bulk and low margins which is why they have lots of low priced goods. I asked his manager in Lae why they do not carry coke products and he said that some years ago, Papindo missed a payment on their 30 day account with coca cola and they closed their account and insisted on cash payments from then on. Sir Tjandra got angry and decided to bring Pepsi into PNG. I would have done the same thing if I was in the same situation. Alot of these multi national companies treat everyone like ****.
Sir Tjandra is a succesful businessman, he started in PNG in 1960 and is still here. Papindo sells cheap goods which is why I shop there. You want expensive goods, go to Garamut or Tang Mow.

That's true - he is a typical Chinese, without any questions. All Chinese always believe they are CHINESE regardless what countries they live in and what citizenship they hold. A really proud people!

regardless of time spent in another land apart from your own, be it locally or internationally, you will still consider yourself to be of your origin. papindo is a foreign company that will always get products from its own country to sell here and that means our money is going out to their banks. he may have done "good" things in some places where he may have been doing favours for YOUR member of parliament so he can stay in buisness in your area. monopoly.the locals are forced out of buisness and foreighners take over. good company??? lukluk gud. noken ai pas.
