I like Greg, but I wish he would say the score more often. I hate turning it on in the middle of the game and having to wait 5-10 minutes before I can hear the score. His play by play is good, it would be better if he said the score more frequently since that is what people really want to know and some people dont' have the time to wait to hear the score. He is a nice addition to the Spirit though and we are lucky to have him.

I also think Greg Brady is an excellent announcer - well-spoken, intense, and pretty knowledgeable of the game. I also, however, agree that needs to state the score of the game much more often. I've spent many frustrating minutes in my car, trying to catch a quick score and have had to wait for an eternity.

I really like how this guy calls the game. He seems to know a lot about all the players. It's interesting to hear all the info. on these guys. I wish I could hear his commentary at the games. It's much more interesting knowing the inside scoop!

I like that he tells it like it is, no real hype for our guys (unless they deserve it) and doesn’t down play the other team. He'll call a good play a good play regardless of who makes it (us or them). And he is much more logical in his 3 star selection than whoever is doing it for the team. Like the other night in the Soo, he said the hooking call. when Raska was pulled down on a break-a-way, was the appropriate call rather than a penalty shot.

Well, I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't excited to have him as our raido guy. Being a huge Red Wings fan like most of us, I was bitter with him after hearing his anti-Shanahan stance after that triple OT win against Carolina in the 2002 playoffs on his show on WDFN. He ranted and raved about how the Wings should make a trade to get rid of him as soon as the playoffs were over because he simply wasn't "producing". I held a grudge for a while because Shanahan is one of my favorite players, hell I named my first-born after him. That's all water under the bridge now though.
I have grown to like him as the voice of the Spirit. He is not a 'homer' and calls a good game. For this, he has definitely earned my respect.

Greg has definetly got a lot better over the past year as he was pretty bad when he first started. He still trips over names and other calls periodically but I think some of that might be attributed to being on his own without a color man. That is a tough situation as you don't get a lot of time to collect your thoughts or check stats, etc. So overall ..... good but could be a lot better.

A quality color commentator might help. I didn't think he was pretty bad when he started, for one. Chiefsfan, you sound like the only who thinks so. It's all opinion. I don't happen to think Ken Kal calls a great game for the Red Wings, certainly he's nowhere near Bruce Martyn who I grew up listening to. It's obvious he's a professional broadcaster and has a fair amount of confidence in his call. Tripping over a name or two (of the visiting team) during the process of the game is totally understandable which you'll hear with any broadcaster. It's not like he's getting stats wrong or he doesn't know the Spirit players well.
It's pretty credible when he also mentions where a player played the year before, how many points he had, when he turns 18, or 19 or whatever. Too many broadcasters call the game between the whistles but don't give any background. Listen around the OHL on the internet, there are some pretty mediocre broadcasts happening. Plymouth's a good example. Greg's pretty good. Our broadcasts sound pretty top notch.
Plus, let's be honest, how many times did he try to make a game in which we were getting killed just a bit more interesting. Probably never that fun to call the games of a team that loses a lot more than it wins. Hoping that's not the case this year.
On the downside, I do wish just a few road games were on tv here even if they were tape-delayed.

Bill, I agree with a lot of what you said. Calling some of the other OHL teams broadcasts marginal would be a compliment to some (not all). I also do not want to compare the Spirit to SOME OHL teams as that may not be setting ones sights too high. I do not expect an announcer to be perfect and think Brady has gotten better. Just to provide a bit of factual backing to my last post. Last game he called Borges, JM Rizk right before one of our goals, and he completely confused a power-play situation in the Soo because he could not count how many players were on the ice. I agree for the most part that the names he trips up on are usually from the visiting team, but he was not so hot on some of our names at the beginning of last season (i.e. MacDonell) but that also backs my point that he is getting better, just not great. And once again just personal opinion but sometimes he seems a bit whiney on the air (no factual backing for this one). As for Mr. Kal you may have a point but I kind of like the guy for some reason.

I like Greg and since I can't get to alot of the games I listen to many of his broadcasts.
I agree he needs to say the score more often, I also wish he would indicate who is coming on or off the ice. With the constant line juggling you don't know whose out there with whom and it makes it hard to follow at times.
I also like the fact that he calls it like he sees it, if the spirit are stinking up the joint he says so; no sugar coating and that's appreciated.
Good job overall in my opinion, with a few areas for improvement.

Greg Brady is without a doubt the best kept secret in the Ontario Hockey League.
Other teams' fans have turned off their own team's radio broadcast in favor of picking up Greg on the Internet. Especially in Windsor, they apparently have a new radio announcer and none of them particularly like the guy.
He gets mentioned and complimented on several teams' fan message boards. Especially after the Sudbury game, he got a lot of mention on their board.
