M.A. Rizk served a 4:00 penalty for Steve Dix at the end of the 1st period.
Things I like about these numbers vs. numbers from the Sudbury game....
Sturgeon got a lot more ice time, putting him at #1 on the team in ice time tonight. He should play the most, especially at even strength. He is our best defenseman at even strength, according to minuses versus ice time.
Misharin getting less time. It seems like he has played every game since arriving. He is, in fact our worst defenseman in terms of minuses at even strength, so his time should be reduced, and he could possibly get a night off now and then. It is, of course, his first year playing the "North American style."
Platt's ice time has picked up even more now that McCutcheon is out.
Mantha shortened the bench big time in the 3rd. Misharin, the 5th defenseman, did not see the ice at all in the last four minutes. Also, the Jenish-M.A. Rizk-Crowder line (the 4th line) last touched the ice around 9:18 of the 3rd period. Desrosiers did the same thing, so no real difference here.
I was kind of disappointed to see Kozak play 4:33 in the first period and not return. He has had good even strength numbers so far in the games he has played, and in my opinion, should play a little more (while Misharin plays a little less). Based on his time in the first period, he was projecting around 12-15 minutes for the night. His ice time mostly went to McNeill after he left the game.
More on McNeill. He has done well for a 16 year old, and by that, I mean that measurably he has played as well as Bissonette this year (who is playing poorly). Bissonette had two minuses tonight, which for him is actually above average. He usually averages 1.2 minuses a night, so this will bring his average up.
I will use the new ice time measurements for my formula that I use to project each player's offensive output. They will help me to revise the older figures, so I should have slightly more accurate goal projections for the season. Then, I should be able to determine who is on what pace. Each player is either playing at or above expectations as I set before the season, or below expectations, although I predict that when I update, Gibson will remain at expectations, Suggs and Dix will be above, and everyone else will pretty much remain below expectations.
