At least you don't have to hear or see the debris...I'm just a bit too far south for it to have actually woken me itself, but the news woke me moments after communications loss with the report that the shuttle was missing and apparently exploded according to witness accounts. The last time the news woke me like this, it was the WTC, but that didn't bother me as much as this, since the WTC was a continent away. In this case, it happened all but in my backyard (no pun, just the figure of speech). I didn't even know it would be re-entering over TX or I probably would have been out hoping for a tiny glimpse of it. I have heard from a local news channel that there have been uncomfirmed reports from viewers that they were able to see it, and this is some 180 miles SW of where it happened. This is very sad indeed.
