I'm not too impressed with what the "experts" know about Autism. Too often they seem to only understand about the more severe end of the spectrum. And considering that the books tend to talk about "tantruming" in one chapter and "flat emotions" in the next, it leaves you wondering if they even know anything about that.
A few months ago Drew came running up to me, "Mommy!"
"I'm the Mommy. What does that make you?" I asked, wondering if he understood the relationship.
He thought about this for a minute and then replied with a big grin, "Happy!"
This has now become a ritual exchange between us and he always does seem very happy when he says it. But it shows that just because his emotions aren't always apparent on his face doesn't mean he doesn't have them.
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your Misto and I hope Shawn is able to cope with the loss of his beloved pet.
