Response to any advice |
| Hey, there~
My name is Keith and I've posting on this site ever since I joined the Broadway company of Cats back in May of 1999. I was with the show up until it closed and had an amazing time. Doing Cats on Broadway was definitely a dream come true. That dream became a reality because it was something I had always wanted to do and was able to do it with persistance and a love for performing and dancing. It took me a while to get Cats, but it was worth all the waiting. My advice to you would be to go for your dream. If performing and acting is something that is a part of you and something you can't imagine NOT doing, then you need to study as much as you can and start going to auditions to see if you have what it takes. Auditions are tough because of the rejection and believe me, for every one audition I do well at, I have plenty of others that I didn't do well at. Or atleast didn't make it past the first cut because I wasn't right for the show. Still, rejection is never easy, but it's a part of this business and it's something that you have to deal with and not take personally. I would say to you to study, audition, take dance classes, take voice lessons and see if it's something that you really, really love to do. There are plenty of people out there who are working actors/dancers/singers. It's their drive and desire that keeps them going and it's what is needed to make it as a professional. The ultimate goal is to become a member of Actor's Equity Association because without an Equity card, you can't work in NYC or a lot of other professional theaters in the country. www.actorsequity.org is the offcial website and can answer a lot of questions if you don't know anything about Equity. There are a lot of non-Equity tours and shows out there and it's a great way to gain experience along with theme parks, cruise ships and casino shows, but and Equity card is a must if you want to be taken seriously as an actor/singer/dancer.
I hope that answers your question. Go for your dreams and don't look back.
