Yes, of course I filed a complaint with the police here in Korea and the party involved in the incident was identified as the guilty party. Due to communication problems here in Korea, he avoided further legal action, as I was not informed that the case had been closed without me being given the option to pursue it further.
There are many people here who are willing to help people in trouble. But you have to understand that many people make false claims on the net, which makes us careful about who we believe.
As I said in my first posting, if you would like confirmation of this incident, feel free to send a quick email to RUG. If there is any truth in it they will either respond or give their version of events. It's entirely up to you whether you pursue it or not.
I had not intended to start a long thread and perhaps I should have thought twice about it. My concern is for the public and the reputation of Cats.
I believe Rumblepurr was asking for a link to a story about this incident in a news source such as a newspaper or CNN. I would hope that everyone here would want such verification before getting involved in this incident.
If you have time to write lengthy responses to me, you have time to send a quick email to RUG - Please forget the whole thing- that's what everyone appears to feel best. Perhaps you too are afraid that the reputation of Cats is at risk? I have little to gain by discussing this further as you clearly either don't believe me or are afraid that some truth which reflects Cats in a bad light will emerge.

The actual production, CATS, and the Korean Tour, is not involved here - even though one party is a member of the Company Crew. Because the incident occurred in a private establishment and in public, the only reputations that are affected are those of the Australian crewman and you.
Unless the crewmembers were wearing their ID, which is unlikely outside the theatre grounds, they would most likely be seen as foreign tourists in Seoul (even if the word going around is that Australians are probably from the CATS crew). Thus, an incident of this kind would be viewed by a considerable part of the public as one of an altercation created by the effects of alcohol. (Alcohol is a depressant - causing the lowering of inhibitions that otherwise dictate behavior... This factor accounts for numerous jokes that are not funny when they occur personally.) You did not make mention of what started the incident - an accident, something said, a gesture... However, you did mention that you might have provoked it further by going after the crewman following the initial incident. When viewed in this light, the production of CATS and its Tour is not even part of the equation here... The entire matter is a personal one between you and someone else...
As to the actions of the police? Again, we cannot judge what we do not know. Both parties (yes, that includes you) could have been charged for the incident, depending upon what the witnesses at the scene provided the investigation. This factor, that you were not charged and the crewman was not charged, might be why it seems that no action was taken. Then again, the crewman might have been fined, he paid for it, and that was that... That may seem callous, but that is the way things happen...
Now - that does not mean the crewman got off free. The incident might have been reported to his supervisor, or even the Company Manager. Here is where the reputation of the show comes into play. By even participating in an altercation of this nature, the crewman could be fined, suspended, fired - whatever is deemed necessary. If asked, the show's representative can say the matter was seen to and corrected... Sound unfair? Welcome to the world of Public Relations...
Your action is not really to protest to RUG. Your action is really against this individual (or plural if more than one attacked you). However, some of the factors I have mentioned above, and those mentioned by other Forum members, are things you are going to have to consider. You will have to go to court with proof that the individual was in the wrong. The other party merely has to show that your allegations are doubtful - and even you must admit that the factors around the incident are not good... One other course of action is to complain to the Company Manager. Again... you have to make certain you have a solid case against the individual member(s), or no action will be taken.
I do not mean to sound unsympathetic, but you are in a very unenviable situation. You feel wronged, but you may not be able to do anything about it. I have given you what I consider is common sense, and a bit of advice. I hope you take it, or learn from it...
