What would you do if you had one million dollars (free and clear, after taxes)?
Sometimes it's fun to daydream about all the things you'd do if you had a little extra cash. These days, one million dollars isn't a whole lot of money. At least it's not in NY. To buy a decent house in mid-Westchester costs about $750,000. So, I sure wouldn't blow it on that. We'd have to keep working, but the pressure would be a lot less. We'd be able to retire early and build a log cabin in the woods somewhere.
First, I'd take Rich out to a nice restaurant and we'd talk about what we were going to do. The next day, I'd take my kids to the toy store and have them pick out any toy they wanted without telling them it costs too much and maybe Santa will bring it for Christmas. Then, I'd pay off my mortgage and immediately dump 20 grand into my house just to do much needed repairs on the roof, foundation, siding and porch.
I'd put 250,000 away each for my kids, to pay for college, a wedding, and a downpayment on their houses.
For both our parents, sisters and brothers, I'd buy each couple a car, and give a few thousand each to our 10 neices and nephews to put away for the future.
Instead of donating to charity, I'd give money to our close friends who are making it by alright, but for whom some extra cash would benefit their quality of life, help them start up their businesses, go on vacation, publish their books, pay the bills etc. They've always stuck by us, and I'd love to give something back.
I figure by the end of that, there'd be about 100 grand for Rich and I to have. And with that, we'd occasionally splurge and go on some great vacations we always dreamed of.
And hey it dont cost anything to dream, Me well i would do almost the same as you,The cabin in the woods OH YA!!!! 2 or 3 horses, 10 or 12 Sled dogs, a few chickens,a nice big garden,etc...etc...etc... Oh i almost forgot, Kirby would get such a big order for some J. West figures, gear wagon and and,and and and, and CUSTOM HORSES( i already have one here and another will be on its way soon enough a beauty of a pinto,he is in the custom horse section of Kirby`s customZ.Bye-bye for Now,going to walk and run my Dogs. Bonjour ou bonsoir a bientot que la paix soit avec toi Gina, Guy Belair.
Ya, a couple of horses would be in order, and, and, and, and me too! I always thought some chickens would be fun to raise! hee hee. Guy, you crack me up. I'd get a couple of dogs, but not sled dogs. They're so aloof. Except to their master, I suppose. Oh, and you can bet I'd get that Johnny West collection. I'd get a whole herd of custom horses, and not only that, I'd hire Kirby to build me an entire town! I couldn't believe how remarkably great his hand crafted custom reins are. That's truly a labor of love. I sure could have used him about 30 years ago! Wow. Is it that long already? I'm getting old. Of course, I'd probably never see Rich again, 'cause he'd be off with his model RC cars and airplanes. Oh yeah, and don't forget that black Mustang GT 5sp convertible that would be sitting in my driveway. And definitely a nanny to take care of my kids in the morning so I could sleep late. Every morning they get up earlier and earlier. This morning, they were up at 5:30 am. They're outta control. Sophia is in for a nap before 8 am. I'm exhausted.
Dave,
That's a given!
(It also didn't include a diamond ring or french manicures for life).
Actually, I'd treat myself to an entire World Series. but only if the Yankees were in it, of course.
I'd probably pass on the diamond. I'm not that high maintenance. But, I would definitely treat myself to a manicure every time I had an event to go to (and that includes a Yankee game - hey, you just never know when you might bump into Derek Jeter!). I only had one in my whole life, and it makes your hands look so beautiful.
And Dave, I'll fly out to Denver and personally escort you to Coors field for a game, with hot dogs, a Yankee hat, and all the frills, my treat. During the 7th inning stretch we'll sing Take me out to the ballgame, and from then on in, you'll be a convert. Better yet, I'll fly you to NY where I'll christen you to become a true fan. You'll have the ultimate baseball experience filled with legend and nostalgia surrounded by a rowdy crowd at Yankee Stadium. Play ball!
Gina..
What a topic... WHOOOOFA .. More zeros tacked on this number than I got total during four years of highschool.........
I suppose the first thing would be to start a savings accout where the money could be earning some interest to help perpetuate this windfall a few days longer.
Probably search for that perfect location for a home... some where on a hill with a view at the end of a long lane or road so that when a car drives in they are either lost or coming to see me. no more drive past traffic...
I suppose I would have to keep my sheep and horses but with new barns and corrals.
I suppose that I'd keep farming/ranching until I went broke again....
Mule,
You - got zeros in high school?! Shut Up! :)
Could you imagine how easy school would be if we had the internet to help us with all our research papers?
