EASTER OR WESTERN as written by the Apostrophes MULE , HEAVY and BOPEEP

HEAVY WROTE 03/28/00

The Easter season has arrived, when ladies look their best.
And the men folk help all they can or shall we say, "invest".
Their hats have got to be just right, their dresses, yes, the latest.
But the ice is off the lakes now, and the fishin is the greatest!!!
The ladies say, "Don't worry, your worms will be just fine!”
And then we say, "They'd be better on the hook end of my line".
So here's the great dilemma! What's a man to do?
Take them worms a swimin, or sit on a hard Church pew?

My, oh my, what a choice, do we grab our fishin poles,
Or go to church on Easter, to try to save our souls?
I do believe my friend that this could cause dissention.
No matter which one we choose it will be with good intention.
For if we decide to spend some time a sittin in a church,
Instead of searching out a trout or trying to catch a perch,
There will be rewards from up above and our wives will love us so.
It probably wouldn't hurt us much to attend church. We really ought to go
As we sit there in all our finery and even you will shine your shoes.
The Pastor or the Deacon will tell us about the news.
They'll tell us all about how the Lord choose to rise up from the dead.
They might even mention miracles, such as never ending bread.
But I doubt that they will talk about what the Lord was really wishing,
That before He goes to heaven, He wants to have one more day of fishing!

Now hang on Pard ya plum forgot a simple thing or two.
It's been a many Sundays since we been in a pew.
We might cause a riot or even worse than that.
We might find a neat new fly, in some old darlin's hat!
Then there'd be the preacher making such a fuss,
Bout never seeing others, but mostly about not seeing us.
And folks would point and make remarks, I think we better wait.
We ain't never gonna make it to them "Pearly Gates"
Them places are for nice folks, with spirit in their souls.
Not two old boys like us chewin' on some Skoal.
And we don't know all them words to all the songs they sing.
When ya come right down to it, we don't know a thing.
Now Easter's kinda scary to show up and start a learnin.
When fishin' is just miles away, and it's what we are yearnin'.
I hope you'll reconsider and head on out with me,
Your clothes don't fit and neckties hurt, ya might as well be free.
Just tell your wife, "I gotta go! Something just struck me funny".
Heavy's out in his yard a huntin' eggs left by that Easter Bunny.

God granted us a gift to make our own minds up,
To choose between a glass of wine or milk served in a cup.
He blesses us each differently according to the choices we each make,
Whether it is to listen to his word at church or go fishin' at the lake.
Your dilemma sure seems sound, as I enjoy a day spent fishin',
I do love to hear the word of God after all I went on a mission.
I may have a solution for you fellas since your torn between the two,
For I recall a scripture from the good book that I'd like to share with you.
I hope when you both read it you will shout, "AMEN!"
For Jesus said, "Come follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
So there you have it boys, take it as you may,
While you two worry what to do, I'll be out fishin' somewhere that day.

Yes, you’re right about being “Fishers of men”.
We should pay more attention and learn to depend,
On the word of the savior as a guide throughout life,
We should learn to listen. It will lessen the strife.
The lord fed the multitudes with a some fish and a few loaves of bread.
He started with almost nothing but he got them all fed.
So now back to the question about what to do.
Take a nap on a stream bank or go to sleep in a pew?
With all things considered, and thanks be to God,
We can enjoy life’s blessings no matter how great or how odd.
Now’s the time to wear our finest clothing, lets put on our very best.
Some shinny boots, our favorite hat, and don’t forget a vest.
The boots will keep our feet dry; a hat will protect our head.
A vest can hold some odd sized hooks, some feathers and some thread.
Now bless my soul, don’t forget, to bring your best fishin’ pole!
I’ll meet you later on down at the local fishin’ hole.
We can drown a worm or cast a fly, or just sit there on our keester.
But my friend above all else let’s have a HAPPY EASTER!

"Come follow me," Jesus said, " and I will make you fishers of men."
Matthew 4:19
