I'm new to reading Kirby Jonas, in fact I haven't yet. I have ordered the hardbound Lady Winchester from Amazon and it should be arriving soon. My question is what is your favorite Jonas book? How did you like Lady Winchester?
Ah, someone new to abuse :) Just kidding. I'll be nice your first time around.
My favorite Kirby book was Legend of the Tumbleweed. I actually read it twice, which is something I don't usually do. If for some reason you aren't keen on Lady Winchester, I urge you to try to read this or one of his other books. I'm fairly certain that if you order Kirby's books directly through this website you don't have to pay shipping, and he will autograph it for you, too.
Welcome aboard.
Happy Reading.
Hi Paul,
I'm sorry, I meant to say -If you're not keen on it, I urge you to read one of his other books. Anyway, I read them all and think they're all very good.
Paul,
Welcome to the Kirby Jonas Message Board. If you check in here with us KJ Fans you'll probably recieve all sorts of advice and and tidbits that you didn't even know existed.....
But as for my favorite KJ Book...... HUMMMMMMM
Probably have to be Lady Winchester... First in part because it's located in my hometown of Blackfoot, Idaho. Second because I have always believed that women are capable of doing more than given credit for.
Kirby gives Lady winchester that boost........
I have all of his books so far, both written and on tape. I think anyone who enjoys reading about good vs bad will enjoy Kirby's discriptive wording and the way the events flow out of the written words.
Paul thanks for asking about Kirby...
Some of the other folks on thes message board have seen this before...
As some of you may or may not know my good friend HEAVY and I E-mail back and forth and sometimes we try to put our messages in ryme………..
This is the one we wrote after Kirby gave a presentation to the Bingham County Historical Society a couple of years ago. He sang and talked about his books. This was just about the time Lady Winchester hit print.
ANY WAY here it is for Kirby’s Birthday .. Many more my friend…..
For Kirby Jonas; a Song Singing, Word Flinging, Fire Beating, Friend

Kirby
This poem's about a man, I don't believe I've met.
But judgin' from his "attributes", a good man I would bet.
He fights a little fire, like a friend of mine once did.
But this guys always singin' so his talents aren't just hid.
They say he's written a book or two, which leads me towards my point.
When the bells go off at his house, does he sing, write or leave the joint?
It's tough enough on the fire lines to be a savin' some old home.
Then writing books about a time when folks were free to roam.
All of this, and a singer? Who knows this mans restrictions?
Seems to me the guy must have, some kind of work addiction.
So if ya ever meet this man a signin' his new books,
If he seems a little tired, please forgive his weary looks.
Any one of his three professions would keep any man quite busy.
Give me more than the one I got? Ya get a fat guy in a tizzy!!!!

Now Heavy please be mindful about my friends vocation.
He is in an elite brotherhood that spans this entire nation.
Oh, when the need arises he might be seen a fighting' fires,
Or perhaps he's running in an ambulance, I hope he never tires.
These jobs can be quite stressful and I think you know what I mean.
They keep you right up on edge; your reflexes must be keen.
I'll bet you've heard of singing cowboys, and actors too I'm sure!
This is a gent that weaves a tale and tries to keep it pure.
He writes good stories about the Old West, and they are based on truth.
His heroes are not quite so well known and the bad guys are certainly uncouth.
Places where these stories start or stop are on all the better maps.
You could almost follow, in the tracks of boots and spurs or chaps.
The words in his stories will lead us, across rivers, mountains and plain.
We can let our imagination take over, and pretend we are back there again.
Now Heavy here's what I'm a thinking', perhaps we should give it a try,
We could straighten up and fly right, instead of telling a big windy lie.
But it wouldn't be much fun while writing a pun, if we had to stick to the truth.
So lets carry on and embellish our tales and put our tongue twixt cheek and tooth!

Let's not start tellin' truths, unless we know our aim.
We ain't that good at writin', but fiction ain't our game.
We barely get the words to match before we’re headed off to bed.
If we ever gain popularity, they'll call us "Seldom Read".
It just seemed right to brag some bout that friend of yours down south.
Rather than the large one here, adorned with the great big mouth.
So I hope that your friend Kirby will soon be my friend too.
Then me and Kirby'll get together and write this stuff bout you!!!!

I'm glad ya like the feller even though ya haven't met.
I'll make a wager that you will, but no one will take the bet.
Now maybe I'd better not give you two an intro,
It wouldn't work for you to meet up with a pro.
The next thing is you'd want to quit working on your day job.
And you know that your writing's as rough as a cob.
But hold on to that thought for now friend. I'll see what I can do!
If there was three of us writing it could be a real zoo.
I think that this should end this cowboy fairy tale,
So if it's all right with you I'll put it in the mail!
Welcome aboard. There's not a bad Kirby book but for my favorite I have go with Death of an Eagle.
Lady Winchester is a good story and Kirby did a really great job telling a story from a woman's outlook and having it ring true. All of his research is impressive. Enjoy.
