Just read Kirby's update on the book. Too bad it is
such a hassle to get the books double signed but that
is a lot of travel. As for me, as long as Kirby signs my book I happy. I will buy the book because
I'm a fan of Kirby's and having it co-authored by Clint Walker is a bonus.

Ditto for me, Lin. I guess I don't understand all this celebrity stuff. I would think it would be great publicity for Clint to appear and sign the book for his fans without paying the extra $$. I mean, when Hillary had her book signing in NYC, did she charge people?? :)
I'm all for protecting artist's rights against misuse, dealers, etc. If the money for the signature went to charity, then the charge would be justifiable. It just seems a little odd to me, maybe tacky, even, to outright charge for your signature on your book for personal gain. I've never heard of it before. Not with baseball players or anybody. I don't mean to offend anyone, and I'm not talking against Clint. That's just my personal opinion.

Hi Gina
Thought maybe you'd blown away.............

I think you're wrong on the baseball players, most of
them charge for autographs now. Maybe not at game day
but when they appear at sports shows and stuff. I don't begrudge Clint the money. I think it is a shame that so many of the older actors got taken advantage of and just down right screwed out of their
money.

Heading out to Colorado in the morning to visit family for a couple of days so talk to you nrxt week.

Clint Walker

Hey guys,

Okay this is especially for Gina, as I guess I didn't write my newsletter very well, or at least one way or another you missed the whole point of the newsletter.

It is going to cost either me or Clint in the neighborhood of 400 to 500 dollars to get both of our signatures on the books. If all of the books come to me, I'll have to take a bunch out to California, which is a 13 hour drive at best, and which even without books in the back of my pickup took got me 10 to 11 miles to the gallon on gas. Then there are hotel expenses, and of course all of the eating out, and California is certainly not cheap. So it all comes down to a huge cost to Clint and me both, and no return without charging extra for his autograph.

Almost all actors charge from 10.00 to 60.00 and more for an autographed photo of themselves. Athletes charge up to 100.00 and more for an autograph, and most of the ones doing that are already making millions a year. Clint is probably making less than I am, considering the fact that he hardly makes any royalties off all his work in Hollywood.

Please do not blame Clint in any way for the change in the autographing of the books. He has every right to expect more, especially when he will have to pay more to get them autographed. And to anyone who has never had to sit and sign their own name over and over and over, it is hard to grasp how very old that gets, too. I once signed 13 cases of 48 books each. Do the math--too many signatures. That night I made it to bed somewhere around 3 AM.

Anyway, like I said, when actors are charging 10.00 and up to sign photos or memorabilia that people send them, why should a book be any different?

Kirby

Hi Kirby,
Isn't it ironic that Warner Brothers doesn't act what it preaches. They created the "CHEYENNE CHARACTER"-a man of honour, moral ethics and role model for the community, but at the same time didn't reward their employees(TV Stars from the 50's and 60's)their true worth after contributing huge profits for their organisation.
They dug the well, therefore they should enjoy the spoils, just as much as today's "TV Stars"-if not more.
Cheers-George.
