My late mother was born and raised in Ireland (County Cavan)so I have a soft spot for the Irish (Southern Ireland (Eire) to be exact). Happy St Patrick's day to all.
We escaped the snow in Virginia. Hope the snow melts quickly Gina. Spring should be around the corner.
Oh wow, Paul, I didn't know you were half Irish. How did your mom end up in England? I'm sorry to hear she passed away.
We got more snow today, and the kids had another two hour delay. They might have one tomorrow, too, as we're going to have snow through the weekend. They're saying it should be better weather next week. I hope so!
My mother died when she was only 50 from Lupus. She came to England as a young woman. Ireland was quite poor back in the 50's and she came to London to better herself with her family before moving up to the north of England. She also met my father while he was visiting relatives (his brother also married an Irish girl) in Ireland so that was the major incentive for her to move to England.
How tragic, Paul. Lupus is such a dabilitating disease. I'm sure it was difficult for you to see your mother endure such immense suffering. I knew a woman who died of lupus 15 years ago. She was 36 years old and had three very small children. I remember how devastated her husband was at her wake. I can still see him standing at her casket with his arms around his three little sons. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. I've recently read there have been medical advances in the treatment lupus so that it is no longer fatal.
On a lighter note, I just got an e-mail from Janette Scott. She might be visiting NYC in July with her daughter and wants to get together. That would be neat. Someday, we should have one big Kirby message board gathering.
Hi Paul,
Janette is hanging in there. It's a terrible thing, how Tom passed so suddenly. Her daughter lives in Boston but might be able to take a job in Eidenburg, so if that comes to pass, I think it will be uplifting for all.

Gina I was just thinking of Janette last week. I hadn't seen her post anything for ages and was hoping she was ok. I hadn't heard about her husband passing away. That is too bad. That would be great if she came to NYC with her daughter. Kate
Hi Kate,
Janette's husband died last October from an aneurysm. He was only in his mid 40's. I e-mailed a few people who's addresses I have, but I don't have yours. You can e-mail me if you would like to give me yours, but that might not be such a good idea, because then you'll be stuck getting a lot of bad jokes, too.
Paul my grandmother was born and raised in Bangor, Northern Ireland and came to Canada in 1912 and met my granfather here. He was born and raised Blackheath which is near Greenwich and came to Canada also in 1912. Kate
Hey, I have an aunt whose mother's friend's cousin's sister moved to Canada. hee hee. Just kidding. I'm trying to follow your conversation with Paul :)
So, how did your grandma end up in Canada?
Every time it gets figidly cold here, I wonder how people can live in Canada, or Alaska, or anywhere it gets even colder. Brrrr. Now that's cold!
Hi Gina. My grandmothers mom died and her dad remarried and I think she felt she didn't fit in with the new family and I guess life in Ireland was restrictive for a young Protestant girl on her own so she thought she would try life in Canada. The part of Canada I live in doesn't get that cold. Maybe the low 30's but only a little snow that is gone in a day or two. I wouldn't like the cold either. It has been nice since January with a little rain and lots of cloudy days but mostly sun. Kate
