Did anybody notice that last Sunday's Parade magazine had an Appaloosa on the cover (the story was about a special ride on the Lakota reservation) and an interview of Mark Harmon, who said "we need more Westerns!"
The only new Westerns I want to return are the kind they made in the sixties. The modern style of Western doesn't interest me. All that so-called 'realism' is boring. Who cares about deadbeat, amoral characters?
.........well i'd like to see some Kirby Jonas westerns...that would be cool...
I know already what Kirby would say to that, and i know that he right !! about what he would say to that !!!
So Kirby what do you say to that !!! ???
Harmon was referring to his 2001 feature, "Crossfore Trail," based on a Louis L'Amour story. He seemed a little too cheerful to play the heavy, but I have no other objection to this "modern" Western.
OF COURSE I'd like to see a Kirby Western on film! Bet it would be historically accurate, too. One thing I've noticed in the old '60's Westerns -- there was never any blood. Not that I like a lot of gratuitous gore, but it seems with all those firearms discharging all over the place, there ought to be some damage done. Guess I've spent too much time in medical records, reading trauma charts!
Sorry about the anonymous message -- I was too darn excited about my grandbaby!
I read the article and the Harmon interview. I thought it
was great that he said we needed more good westerns. Kirby, any contacts that might send him one of your books.
Then he would know what a really good western should be
like.
