I had no idea that Jerry O'Connell had done as much work as he has -- although now I remember him from "Crossing Jordan."
Of course I always look at an actor as a possible WESTERN actor, and now that I'm a little longer in the tooth, the young ones don't interest me much. I don't watch a whole lot of TV as I can't stand sitcoms, so generally I end up watching whodunits if I watch at all. I can count the number of times I watched a satellite-service movie on one hand, so I cut out the premium movie channels. Not sure if it's a chicken-and-egg thing -- there seem to be few fictional situations that interest people of my age and I don't know if it is because we are useless demographically or what.
I would like to see some shows with decent plots and some characters with character. Not to mention actors with some maturity on them, male AND female. Anybody out there got some suggestions of actors to watch? I just finished "Cold Mountain" on audiodisc and I admired the writing, so I'm going to get my hands on the movie next. I'm real tired of SILLY SHOWS. And shows that portray situations and people that seem unreal to me. Not to mention the one-up-manship nature of the entertainment business.
Do I sound like I'm whining? You bet. It's Saturday night and I can't get my VCR to work. I'm still emotionally drained from all this family stuff (and that herd of grandmas). I came back with a spectacular upper respiratory infection that isn't showing much sign of going away soon. W-A-A-A-A-H!
Hi Kaye,
You should rent that Patrick Swayze movie I mentioned before - Tall Tale - The Unbelievable Adventures of Pecos Bill. It's a western-based fantasy and a lot of fun with a cute ending. There is a very serious western that is very good called The Jack Bull with John Cusack and John Goodman. It's a true story of an event that happened to a horse rancher about the time of Wyoming statehood. I don't want to say more and give the plot away. I also saw part of the real version on the history channel. I'd recommend that movie. But it's very draining, so you might want to give yourself more time before you watch it.
I have that same head/chest/throat upper respiratory thing. I think it's going to be a few days before the antibiotics kick in, but I already feel a tiny bit better. If you're feeling poorly, you should go to the doctor before it gets much worse and you're really sidelined - especially now that your son needs you.
OK, folks, thanks for putting up with me while I whine. The suggestions are welcome although I've never been able to watch "The Horse Whisperer" -- the book was gory enough and I'm too soft to want to see it in person. I guess after all these years reading medical charts I'm more used to people suffering than animal suffering. I just paid a $496 vet bill for the "free" kitten my vet gave me who then had an intestinal infection. Miss Pearl the Velcro Kitty is doing just fine.
Aleta was supposed to come off the vent yesterday but I haven't heard from the other grandmother. Will call tonight.
Hopefully we'll get the first crop of hay done this week and then I'll spend the weekend out at Sterling for a regional Appaloosa show put on by my club, Blackhawk Appaloosa Association. I don't usually show -- I'm the trail rider in the bunch -- but someone found out I've had a lot of experience announcing at horse shows so it looks like I'll spend the weekend with a microphone in my face.
Hi Kaye,
Keep us posted on Aleta. I hope she's recovering and gaining stregnth and is able to go home soon. I have more clothes for her...let me know if you want them.
"Free" kitties. ha hah. The last "free" cat I adopted from the shelter cost $330 in vet bills the first week. Physical, ear mites, worms, blood test,... Oh yeah, and probably another $100 at the end of the month to deflea my house twice, too. And he was 'healthy' too. heh heh. He's still going strong at 17 years.
The movie version of The Horse Whisperer was very good. I don't recall it being so gory that it was painful to watch like you mentioned about the book.
Yes, Kaye, I think you would like the Horse Whisperer. Not only did they not make it as gory as the book, they left out at least one other totally unneeded and embarrassing scene.

P.S. This is the first time I've seen this board in days, so I haven't been able to follow all the news. I hope the baby's doing well.
