Whoa!

Girls, girls! You're making me blush!!! But thanks for the compliments. It is compliments like that which make me keep doing these horses long after I swear I'm going to stop. I mean, dang, everyone and their dog is customizing horses now. It's incredible. As Gina knows, I wasn't the first. A guy who went by Sparkyreyna was the first. Yeow!!! His horse was one of the worst ever, but it sold on Ebay for 460.00. Gina's prompting and that one auction got me going, and for two years I had the markets by the-- by storm. haha. Now everyone is coming out of the woodwork to customize Marx horses. Good thing I found these new horses to work on. Gotta stay away from the crowd, and there's some that are looking pretty good out there. The one major thing I've noticed, though, is that NO ONE seems to be able to make a model horse look like the original horse they're copying. That really strikes me as strange. Some of the colors they come up with blow me away. Then they will put a photo of the model horse up next to a photo of the real horse. Ouch! I would NOT do that if I were them. Oh well. It's a funny world! Especially if you collect Marx. Some of the really cool stuff that's out there, next to some of the horrid stuff just makes me chuckle. There is a lot of love going into these little plastic thirty-year-old toys, that's for sure!

Um, Kirby, that would be 40 year old toys - as in - you're going to be 40 years old this year. That's right. Forty. For-ty. Fortay. Forteeee. Farty. hee hee. I'm just warming up for the big day.

That's right. That $460 horse still makes me ill. Could you imagine how ill the person who bought it must feel? It really was the worst one I have ever seen. It was so bad, I thought it was some sort of joke. I first saw that auction and thought - what a shame - someone painted their horse with a can of blue spray paint when they were a kid and now they're stuck with it. Nobody's ever going to buy it. Boy, did I ever fall off my chair when it got that price!

Kirby - you deserve all the praise for your horses that has been heaped upon you. The black stallion you made me on which sits Tappan is among my most prized possessions.
Tappan told me the other day that his hands are getting a bit sore however, from having to hold on to the mane when riding 'cuz he lost the bridle. Know where I can get another?

Kirby, sounds like you must be getting ready for a larger
hat size :-) Everyone appreciates your talent and dedication to your work, whether it is art or writing. We
all know a good think when we see it.

Whoa and hang on a minute. Kirby's horses are not toys.
They are among the best reproductions of the real thing you will ever find anywhere. They are for serious collectors. It is easy to hide behind that "anonymous" identification and throw bombs, if not down right cowardly.

Cowboy Spook

May 19 2005, 1:14 PM

That photo Kirby took of his toy horse that he painted and modeled after the horse Cowboy Spook looks absolutely real with the background redrock setting. And there's another scene he did last year with a herd of his custom painted toy models with all the horses posed differently, and I'd have thought that was real, too, if I didn't know they were toys.
