Steve Irwin, The Crocidile Hunter

You know, they say the famous die in threes. I am very saddened tonight to read that Steve Irwin, known to most people in America, Australia, and abroad as the Crocodile Hunter, was stung in the chest by a stingray while diving and died. He left his Oregonian wife, a daughter and son. In our household and in all the fire stations he was a well known person, and I mourn his loss. He was a bit of a show-off, but what makes a star, after all? He seemed like a genuine, down-to-earth man, made mistakes, like we all do, but overall was someone you would have been proud to call your friend. Our house will be lonely for a long time knowing he will not be bringing any new adventures to The Discovery Channel. I guess he died as we all knew he would, though, and doing something he loved. I guess he would have wanted it that way. But sadly, at 44, he only got to spend three years with his baby boy, and his girl isn't too much older, I don't think. Pretty sad.

Incidentally, and I don't mean to say he's the least of these, but I also learned that Red Buttons died. He was another of those guys you think, he sure would be a nice man to know. I don't think that about most new comedians. They seem pretty crass and "better-than-thou."

Very sad. There was a nice article in MSN. He was a
funny guy, sometimes a little over the top but that's
show business. He was a great conservationist and he
will be missed. I guess the positive is that he died
doing what he loved. Probably not much consolation for
his family.

He will be greatly missed in Australia, but apparantly he was more popular in America, then he was here.
Last year, they did a "This is Your Life" Segment, which was very well done .
Condolences to his wife and kids-he was Passionate About Life.

i think the most painful thing in life is seeing a child cry in sorrow...that seemed to be happening all over the world when steve passed away,,,he was one of those wonderful humans who through kindness to animals, teaches all of us to be kinder to each other.
