Can somebody please let me know details/good links on:

1. Uniform Civil Code - why Muslims oppose it?
2. Haj subsidies.. what exactly do they get?
3. Apparently only temple charities are taxed/money is taken by the GOI... this does not hold for madrassas, churches etc... does not apply to otehr religions.

Need info and links if possible.

Many of us are not aware of the information. I need this info to arm myself with facts. Thanks so much.

If all this is true why hasnt someone done a public interest litigation about unequal treatment meted out to Hindus esp in the case of the Haj subsidy and the taxation of temple funds?

There is no taxation of temple funds

AFAIK (As far as I know),
Hindu Temples (including funds donated to them) are managed by the Government whereas Christian/Muslim funds are not.

PIL is not going to solve the problem

What we need is bigtime constitutional amendments, not PIL.

Good article on the Haj subsidy by Arvind Lavakare

It goes against the constitution of India and is asecular to have such a Haj subsidy

According to the article Hindus get a subsidy for a pilgrimigage to Kailash Manasarovar

August 19 2002, 11:51 AM

For every Rs 100,000 a muslim spends on a Haj pilgrimage s/he gets Rs 20,000 as a subsidy

And for every Rs 100,000 a Hindu spends on Kasilash Manasarovar, s/he gets Rs 13,250

Both are asecular

Are there any other countries paying HAJ subsidy to minority muslim? (or is it only India in the world who pays this subsidy?)

Do you have the numbers of pilgrims taking these trips? I recall reading the number is hugely tilted in favor of hajjis.

In addition, Hajj pilgrimage is not subsidised in Pakistan, as by their texts, the pilgrimage should be performed only if one (financially) can. Therefore subsidy has been deemed un-islamic.

Of course, the nation of world's most foolish politicians, India still keeps subsidies. Not to mention different laws for people of different religion. That's medieval!!

here the statistics of how temple money is diverted to haj

The following are the excertps from an interview with SRI SRI RAVISHANKAR JI.

'in karnataka we have 40,000 temples. The income from these temples is Rs 40 crores.Only Rs 50 lakhs is spent on the temples, the rest goes to the Government. Whereas grants are given to the minority communities[ to an extent of Rs 8 crores], while their income is only Rs 50 lakhs" pointed out the leading spiritual figure and ART OF LIVING Founder SRI SRI RAVI SHANKARJI.

'Those people who go to Kumbh Mela have to pay taxes./whereas people are given a grant to go to Haj; sri sri Ravi shankar observed.
